I have no Idea. I'm not in the rally circles but these Volvos are the ones to beat in the Finnish F cup. http://www.rallybaron.fi/index.php/kuvat
they put out 270bhp And I do beieve they are 8 valve engines. Not sure if EVO heads are allowed.

        I was wondering that too.
Volvo 1031 Axle has nearly come standard issue axle in all the classes allowing axle swaps. Escort, Volvo and Corolla rally car run those axles. They're bullet proof alltough as such a bit heavy.

As Eric said to me (I machined his Toyota axle for him) - allowing the use of the Supra rear 4 pinion clutch plate diff, and better (cheap) gearing. I think a 4.11 ring and pinion around these parts is around 150 or so.

Well it was a toss up for sure. Keeping the volvo axle would have been a whole lot simpler but at least double the money unless I found a 1030 axle, which isn't easily done. To do the volvo axle properly (to my understanding) you want a gripper diff for gravel which is big $ and for the 1031 anything lower than a 4.11 ratio is not available this side of the pond. My friend swapped a volvo axle into a corolla and by the time he had the ring and pinion in his hands from sweden it was 1200 CAD. I probably have less than the cost of a 1031 cw&p into the whole axle swap... including the custom driveshaft.

The toyota axle is plentiful around here, the 4.88 ratio cost me under 200$ and new bearings were reasonable. I am use a mk3 supra clutch type diff with a shim kit to increase the breakaway torque. Also quite cheap and simple to add the shim kit to the diff. The toyota axle also has the added bonus of having a removable centre section.

I figured if I am doing an escort style 4 link it wouldn't really be much more work to add the axle. I think I was right on this however what is biting me in the ass at the moment is figuring out a good brake mounting setup, but I hopefully I have a solution plotted... stay tuned to watch me eat those words!

Good to see you on here Matt! Any progress on the XR? I meant to give you a shout last week to see if you wanted a hand but I got sick and was bed ridden. Good now though so gimme a shout!

I registered just for you The XR is actually moving again which is shocking. I machined up and welded in a solid mount for the rear beam, rear trailing arms are modified and painted, electrical is almost finished. After resolving an issue with the balance bar hitting the steering column (I'm not sure how to fix that one), I am done fab and ready for assembly. Should go quick after that.

Great to see another RWD car being built for rally in Western Canada! Looking forward to seeing the build. I should have my escort done for Mt Hood Rally and Big White Rally this year - when are you planning this car's debut? (http://www.turbosport.co.uk/showthread.php?t=700953)

                    Hey Warwick,

Truthfully I wanted the car out this weekend at the radium rally but obviously that didn't happen. Im probably going to hold off till the 2016 season to debut for a number of reasons. Hopefully the car will be ready for a test day at the end of august (with a stock motor). The first event would probably be the cochrane rally (you should come out!)

Always good to hear of a fellow 2wd guy closing in on completion! Seems people cant get it out of there heads around here that a blue subaru/ 4wd isn't the best place to start.
