I believe (not 100%)the one that I'm thinking of is a member of the organising club at the lydden sprint where Jim had the problemComment

Re: Mr Jimbo - MK1 Escort - 2.0 Pinto
The name of the game is you either have to adopt the funny handshake with left leg held in the air whilst the other person holds your right nipple or go to wales where there's a big class for all escorts - rally cars - well that's the conclusion I have drawn!!!!
What benefit would be gained by taking it to Wales ? It aint a rally car and never has been, log book says "Sprint" not "Tree Fodder"sigpicComment

Re: Mr Jimbo - MK1 Escort - 2.0 Pinto
Jim, ring Andy as he has an idea about the springs material ..
Rules and answers
Suspension pick up points must be retained ... they are
Supension pick up points may be moved .. they are
suspension type must be retained .. it is , a live axle located by forward facing links and sprung by steel springs (thier rule, springs are free ie in design ) it dosnt say 'spring rate' or 'spring number' or ' you can get Malvern Spring water for free '
If they want a leaf spring in place then they can have one.. its a spring ..just a very low rate one .. its there, in place ..
to make a bigger mockery of the rules ... it says " suspension mounts must be retained " so cut them off and put them in a biscuit tin at home on the mantlepiece ... they are retained at home .
We had a similler thing with Andys car in SEMSEC .. his car was linked without cutting the floor, without moving standard suspension points etc and the class E's where in a huddle .. because the rules stated
"the cars floorpan my not be modified to allow suspension links to pass through it (this effectively bans 4 linking on Escort) "
what the paddock read was the bit in brackets .. not the bit before. The same rules said inner wings can must remain standard, a hole for induction may be used .. blah blah ..
we some of those in that huddle didnt even have inner wings in their minis ..
Jim, let andy glue these plastic springs up .. and fit them.. then look closely at the other competitors cars .. what goes around comes around.. You'll find something on them i'm sure ... but just mention it to them, not the stewards, its just not motorsport.Comment

Re: Mr Jimbo - MK1 Escort - 2.0 Pinto
I've been thinkingAre fia homogolated modifications classed as original? If so Ford homogolated the 4 link system complete with coil-over shocks with no leaf springs on the escort mk1/2,therefore the floorpan and spring type is to original specification end of story.

Re: Mr Jimbo - MK1 Escort - 2.0 Pinto
niether here nor there in Jims case. Its a clued up competitor fooling a scrutineer, Jims car is legal ..simple fact,
But it does highlight why sprints are dying .. when cars that have run for 5 years suddenly get booted to SL when a competitor whispers ..Comment
