Off to Croft today for the first round of the Rallycross Open series. I hope to do well but because its a heavy rally car the lightweight rallycross boys always beat me off the line even when i try and jump the start
Couple of pics of our bed in the van so we can swap the driving up there and on the way home tomorrow night!
Ill do a write up when im back on Monday! Hopefully the car will be in one piece!!
Oh and a pic of the horrible door squares we have to run because it will all be on Motors TV.
Ash drove great yeterday and came away with 3rd place in the Revivals A final and first in his class. Was a fanatastic day and a really good circuit, seemed to suit the Escort and his driving stlye a treat.
Apart from a being harpooned by some 16year old in BMW325, he came away unscathed, so the bodyshop can rest easy this week!
Well Done
To be honest we were dreading the long drive up to Croft on Saturday but it flew by with no delays and we stopped for a slap up lunch near Stamford just off the A1 i suppose it helps when you break up the journey. We did it in 4 and abit hours. Arrived at the track and got the car scrutineered the only things he wasnt happy with were only one fog light and i didnt have safety goggles or a visor on my helmet. Dirty connection on the light cluster and got two fog lights working and he actually lent me some safety goggles! Quick walk of the track to see where it went! Then retired to the B&B 3 miles down the road to Watch the Rugby and have some Beers and Dinner!
Sunday Morning massive Breakie didnt eat too much beacause of the weight issues as im already a heavy rally car! Out in practise i was 1st out in the revievals which is good so i had a clear track to see where it went at speed and how much grip there was! All the tyres on the car were pretty wore out anyway Knackered RallyX Khumos on the front which were ex Ollie ODonavons which he threw away at Lydden (so we threw thew in the back of our van) and on the back the best of the 4 Priellis from WoodBridge, even with these on the car i was very happy with the grip and how the car turned in.(power steering made it less of an animal to turn in and control thanks again Gary and Matt)
1st Heat 6th on the grid just had steady Run round made my way up to 4th with no Dramas or damage.
2nd Heat got a Blinding start from the 2nd row tucked in behind the leader John Wood in his MR2 and was keeping in touch with him till the final lap where a Junior in a BMW 325i RWD Challenge car used me to slow himself down at Hawthawn and spun me out as i spun i braced myself for everyone else hitting me but luckily everyone missed and i was pointing the right way still on the tarmac engine still running dropped into 2nd and i was away again. In my head i said "Good Recovery Cole" as in from days of Thunder when Cole Trickle had the same trouble! Ended up finishing 4th because of that but only a little bit of rear end damage nothing Major and more importantly wasnt me being a nutter as usual!!!!
Final Heat 9 cars on the Grid from what i can remember i had pole and had a good clean run and finished 3rd behind the MR2 and Glenn in his VW Golf mk2 with a R32 engine!
So this put me on the 2nd Row of the A Final in 5th positon. Off the start it was all or nothing everyone got away cleanly and i was Flat Changing up the box into 5th Gear i tucked in Behind John Mooney in a Astra GTE 2.0 Red Top, then his brake light came on on the straight so i swearved round him to the left up to 4th position the VW Gold was in the lead with a Mini 1450cc (500kg maybe less) and the MR2 ahead side by side, the door was open by the mini as we approached the first corner so i out braked him got two wheels on the Kerbs and back on the power fully sideways to the chincane so now im in 3rd positon behind the Golf who is already pulling away and the Mr2 just ahead of me. 3rd Corner again im fully sideways across the whole track the Mini cant get by now its a right left onto the loose so im neat through there hard on the power now back up the gears heading to the tightest and most slippy Hairpin, i keep a very tight line defending my inside the mini in on my Bumper for the next 3laps it stayed like that, i pushed as hard as i can without making a misake for the next 3 laps, on the Final Hairpin i get a healthy Love Nudge from John in the Astra but kept him at bay and crossed the line in 3rd position!
I was over the moon with that result! From MrTee who was on the Banking said that they couldnt get by just beacuse i was so sideways blocking the whole track
The name of the Game in Rallycross is get in front and stay there and thats what i managed to do! So keep your eyes open for it on Motors TV should be a good watch i just hope that show that race!
Cheers mate nice to meet you too sorry didnt chat for longer but think you could see i was buzzing after the Final and my Dad turned up as we tried to chat!! I saw you had a camera if you got any pics please load them up!! Cheers!! Hopefully see you on some rallies this year or Rallycross!!
Incase your wondering how this happened, he must have been coming up to the grid warming his tyres and breaks and breaked abit hard and got the back end of the car in the air
Off to Longcross for the 1st time for the Mini Tempest Stages. Running car 30 alot of big and quick stuff infront and behind me!
Because its my 1st time to Longcross i dont think ill be up there due to its the same stages as they have run for the last 5 or so years! So everyone who has been there before will be flying from stage one! Ive gotta keep my head cool and not go mad and make any mistakes!
I would like it if it was wet, levels the playing field so the big power cars cant get the power down!
Preped the car after the rallycross only had to re fit the lights, spanner check, swap the tyres round and polish out all the battle scars from croft!
Im looking forward to a good days motorsport with Dad back in the car with me calling the notes, i just want to finish! Oh yeah and Win the class lol
