    mmm...... interesting stuff, how did the torque figures compare? noticable difference in its driving characteristics? a nice an easy way to gain 14 bhp!

      There was a hole in the torque curve at 4000rpm and this has been eliminated totally. Chris felt it much smoother and responsive. the figures at the top changed very little but peaked for longer. We need to retard your cam another 4deg Allan. Start saving mate for that ecu.!

          right, to dig up an old thread! cutting a long story short, my initiall st motor experience was short lived! managed to spin No4 shell! anyway, new motor fitted, another st170 lump, this time with vvt working. still on same ecu. so same on/off function. made my appointment with dynoman, and off i went! it was very flat on the first run, 40bhp @3k rpm, and around 120bhp i think @ 6500. dynoman layed his hands on the engine and ecu, and by the time he was done, i was on 70bhp on 3k, 169bhp @ 6500, this all on a standard engine and ecu. i've gained all round on both power and torque, and the car feels WAAAAYYYYYYYYY more responsive, not that it was a slouch before! much sharper and responsive all round. have bben playing with it a few nights now, had to stop as my fresh tyres were no more! lol this guy has to be the big JC of the engine world. hoping to be out on the 3/4th of september, see what result the car can give me! thanks again dude! oh btw, he makes a top brew as well! lol.

            Alan, you have the figures mixed a bit as you have wheel and flywheel figures. The final flywheel figure at 3k was 91bhp and it peaked at 169bhp. The mid range was so much stronger than the old engine and very similar to Chris's engine on DTA with its own VVT map, which proved to give more bottom end 107bhp @ 3k and better top end 188bhp. Having said that , for the basic switched vvt it gave a good return.
            Glad your happy with it and theres no excuse now! lol .

                      Looks lovely this car.
                      As said in the other thread I'd like to see some close up pics of the important bits.

                      They are looking at changing the MOT rules for hid headlights in the uk making them a fail if not a standard fit or has self levelling etc.

                      Might make you think about converting ?

                        let me know what pics you'd like, i'll endeavour to sort some out. all the 'engine' bits, are just as per normal zetec, mounts etc, so all easy there. it is a bit tight at the bulkhead, so if i were to do another, id allow for a bit more room between the thermostat housing and bulkhead. the manifold and fuel rail fit as per normal. the big 'air box' need to be turned upside down. think i used some 50mm silicon hose, so connect up to themanifold, very fiddely, as you havent got much room, but u just have to cut and fit till it all goes in. there is also 2 air tracts inside this box, the st170 uses a control unit to switch from one to another, i have tied this off at the tensed position, as i don not use this control. as for the hid, well, i think its a nice thought, but would create so much hassle i feel during scrtueneering, plus by using the crystal lenses, im getting really good lighting at the moment, so feel i'll just let it lie for now.

                          JUst a quick update! It's been nearly 12month sInce I initially got the mk1 running, it's been a bit me a bumpy and interesting ride along the way. Just come back from the rolling road session last night, the ecu now been tweaked to work the Vvt correctly. Done nothing to the engine at all, But on have gone from 169bhp, to 193bhp, with a fraction under 180lb/ft torque. All this from a stock, £300 engine!

                              Wow came to mind when I first buried the loud pedal, no hesitation, pulls hard and strong, from very low down right up to the top! It really has made so much difference! Can't be many stock 2L engines, including the standard induction, that gives you that kind of power! Just need to learn how to drive it now! Lol
