The giveaway is the polarising effect in the pictures means it's toughened not laminated ....I think
Yodi there's nothing "wrong " with it MOT wise but as stated above it will break into a gazillion bits of it gets hit by anything that would just crack a laminated screen.
I'm not sure if they are still legal to fit to a new car, but you don't see the in cars older than the late 70's much (except perhaps BL cars).
It is true they shatter into millions of bits rather than just crack, which could be bad at high speed, although you can still see through em usually, but you have to hit em much harder to break em in the first place. I used to scare my mates by using em as wobble boards cos they are nice and bendy.
I wouldnt worry about it overmuch unless the screens gotta come out for something anyway.
Err do be! I broke 2 toughened screens in 1 week and 1 day this month, both from stones flicking up on the m-way. First screen stayed in and i managed to get home (about 5-10 miles) as i was right at my turn off pretty much, but it was well hard...the lines you see in the pic kinda dont crack into tiny pieces, but the glare of the sun/headlights off the cracks is enough to stop you seeing. Oh and the second one smashed near gatwick on my way to brighton and i saw it hit, crack across, and then it fell on my lap Talk about shit myself! luckily the gf didnt have a scratch on her, i got a few tiny prickles in my hands but it took chunks of paint out my roof where some went over the top and the glass went fucking everywhere Best bit was people looking and like "erm he got no screen" so you give em a wave out the front window Oh and remove magic trees as they flap about and hit the roof!
Not a nice situation to be in really so i got a laminated one from autoglass in the end
hehehehee, ive had a few toughened screens break on me over the years, slightly more inconvenient i will admit than your laminated one just cracking, but i always managed to drive alright with em broke. bloody youngsters!!
Lol the 2nd one i didnt shut my eyes! Watched it crack across then fall in! Its just a bit shite when you got a lap full of glass and your centre console is so full of it its buried your phone....and the thing starts ringing
Ah well all glass donated to the hard shoulder and down to gatwick to turn round....great day out with the lady that was
