    O what a day.
woke up at 6am fooking frezzing and raining
but did'nt take long for the weather to clear up and people to start rolling in.
then it was all systems go getting the track sign ons and passes out to everybody.
Next thing I know cars where out on track. Got my frist go at about 10am with my bro took it easy for the frist few laps then give it some stick could feel a bit of wheel wobble as I was coming outa the tiet bends so pulled in for a look to find the wheel bearings needed pinching up.

after that when out with Dave the race instructor and what a diffrence it made to my day knowing the right line's and braking pionts top man.

As for the action I cant really say much as I was in/out of the pits taking peolpe out only action I saw was when I was on track but did get passed by some lovely looking/sounding motors (hutch's mk2, michael cozzy, neil's capri, pigs beeper lol, and many more sorry cant remember everybodys name).

And one last VERY BIG THANK YOU to all the staff at Castle Combe for a great day with a relaxed atmosfear and friendly out look on the day.

    also speical thanks to :-
    Adrian (race director)
    Dave (race instuctor)
PIG (for his help getting people to come)
Retro ford (for covering the day)

And big thanks to everybody for coming cars or not to help me have a birthday i will never forget.

as trig said woke up at about 6.30/7.00 to rain and it was friggin freezing.woke up abit and waited for the reat of the Reading lads to arrive, they got there at about 7.30ish i think and unloaded the cars and we all got breakfast.well sorted out trig.quick painfree briefing and the action started,my lad and myself took to the track as soon as it opened in the beemer and had a ball.good to see the hutch there in his mk2 as i love this thing.afew outstanding cars of the day for me was rickys mk2,jamies vw golf, the 2 yanks went well, kieron was peddling the feista really well until it got the death rattle near the end, hippies took a ragging all day until the clutch cable snapped with about 10mins left so he got it home without the clutch.shame about noels porsche but went like fook as well.my lad had a pop in a couple of other cars and i thank the drivers for that as well he loved every minute of it.oh jez snores to load.cheers for trigs perants for the bbq.the only issue i have with castle combe is there noise testing seems 10db's more than every where else cars are tested(merlins must love it)all in all a top top day for me with great people etc.i loved the gti boys raping there things all day, boxxers spin was fooking funny(as he didnt hit fook all)perky i think it was getting a proper tank slapper on when he caught sweeps engine contents just before quarry(well held that man)the attmosphere where we camped was excellent with a lot of banter also.i have not spoken to anyone that had a bad word to say about the day so trig, combe and his family should take a huge pat on the back imo.all i need to know now is what date in september is the next one my inbreed brizzle chums?????????????????????????????
not a great write up as i dont do this shit but a little account of what i thought of it.
p.s was great to see paul alex, cossiematt, merv hill, gary retro, graham c etc pop in on the way to matt's stag do in bristol.i hope you lads had a great weekend on that as well.a huge big
to every single person that attended and made it the day it was

my first ever track day ... and i couldnt drive (dam not having a lisence ) anyways i settled for passenger rides with the 'BRE crew' proper laugh, had some right fun... wandering round the pits taking to people, and watching everyone giving it 'the beans' out on track all led to great enjoyment. a huge thanks to trig for organising it and to everyone else for making it a brill day. thanks also go to the BRE crew for taking me and bringing me home ... not to mention putting up with me as a passenger for a lot of the time .
only problem is it has made me get a bug, and im already thining on how i can make my mini faster so i can keep up and have a laugh with everyone else

        absoultely BRILL , thanks everyone!!!

and trig whens the next one... at very least you gotta do it again next year please, so i can have a go at pedaling out on track

        Thanks again

What a day ,firstly a huge thanks to Trig for organising the day ,it was our first Turbosport camping trip was nice to meet some new faces Trig ,simon and Phil(boy does he like a chat) camping was a good laugh but it was fcuking freezing(by the way Pig that was my bro doing the snooring)woke to a little rain but it soon cleared up after a bit of breakfast it was noise testing all was ok for me 96db but i think the brands noise pass sticker helped as they didnt check it too well ,then onto the breifing all the normal stuff really then get ready for some track action ,i thought i would drive the paddock slowly to warm the diff and box etc only to find that i couldnt get 2nd gear ,i had only just put the gearbox back in after changing the input shaft oil seal and had thought the linkage which is bad on a good day was ok but no joy,so after a couple of hours pissing around with it i managed to get 2nd so out on the track i went.
It was my first time at coombe but really enjoyed it the car was handling as allways brilliantly but i was having issues getting the gears and hitting the 7800 rev limit half way past the paddock straight didnt make for the best of lap times .

I pissed about with the linkage allday with the help of the Pipe family and Dave White thanks chaps but never got too many clean laps in so called it a day at around 3 despite the car issues we had a great time Cheers to Trig and all the staff at Coombe roll on the next one

Re: Trigs Track Day Retro Ford

I think i can speak for the other boys from Essex when i say we had a wicked day. Man it was an early start, getting up at 4am was actually painful! but it was worth it.
It would have been easy to feel slightly out of place in our new school motors, my mates in a few Racing Pumas and me in a bright orange Focus ST (couldn't exactly hide!), but we didnt, we just had a wicked day thrashing the shiny metal round the track all day!

I was really impressed by alot of the cars on show, there is something special about seeing 20+ year old motors in such nice condition and still being used to there limits, fair play to you guys.

Really glad we all chose the open pit lane format, it worked out perfectly and we got loads of track time. Enough for my ST to completely cook its brakes, resulting in a pedal to the floor moment and not alot of slowing down! Decided to come in at that point to let them chill for a while!

Apart from a seriously scary moment at Quarry where the dust was so thick the car in front of me completely disappeared, the day was incident free and after a long drive back to Chelmsford we got back very ready for ice cold beer about 8pm.

Had a wicked day, thanks for organising it, and if you guys do it again im definitely coming (this time with better brake fluid, new tyres, and new dampers!)

              cheers.

Re: Trigs Track Day Retro Ford

What can I say, this was probably one of the best days out i've ever had, loved being around all the old skool motors. I'd been looking for a mk2 escort ever since I put my name down and gave up last week, toyed with the idea of pulling out then decided to take our old car bmw 325tds, had an absolute scream out there once I settled down, to be honest this was my first track day and I shat myself going into quarry for the first time!! just need a quicker car!! watch this space

Again massive thanks for sorting this Trig sure it will be an ace birthday to look back on, but more importantly when's the next one? If it does happen I'd be well up for it, I think Pig's got the right idea september sounds good to me!!!

Re: Trigs Track Day Retro Ford

The day started a 6am for me and my mate Ben, drove down to combe on red bull to wake myself up abit and got there for 7.15am. Didnt know anyone but instantly reconised PIG (good looking bastard ) so asked him where i'd find Trig and he pionted me in the right direction. Signed on and got my breakfast voucher, nice one Trig .
Met Kieron and Simon and got a second harness off them. Went out on my own on track and had a spin on my second lap
Took my mate out next time and had a MAJOR moment after hitting the oil left by Sweep coming into Quarry at 100mph. Clean pants were definately needed .
Gradually got quicker through the day but the car wasnt upto the strain and burnt the ignition switch out (fixed that) then the Steering rack started knocking finally the clutch gave up at about 4:30. The misses turned up at lunchtime in the Megane R26 F1 so i just had to take that out for a blast too . Did afew laps with the misses on board too, now she wants a trackcar built too
All in all was an excellent day far far better than i was expecting and the best day ive had in ages, just wished i'd camped the night before.
Cant wait til the next one, well done Trig for organising such an excellent day

Re: Trigs Track Day Retro Ford

,For me this was a great event to be part of ,not just about the motors but putting faces to TS user names and seeing motors in the flesh.
Although i was not in a position to take me old girl on track it was a great excuse to take her for a drive to the combe circuit i loved it sun shinning arm ou the window.
I arrived 5:30 Thursday in blazing sunshine to find i was on me own at the back of the cafe Until i found fezz and his brother to have a very long chat with i do like to chat.
They had raided a Halfords store on the way down to Combe to acquire all there camping essentials ,for virgin campers they made quick work of getting them selfs set up for the evening .The only thing they did not check was the weather and the fact that the temp would fall to 4 degrees in the night .I swear i heard ants teeth chattering in the night .

Found Trigs stuff he had dropped off earlier in a pile and Trigs famous camping marque he takes to events so set about trying to get it erected.Decided to wait for him to arrive to finish it so popped my little tent up.
By this time i was starving and the smell of BBQ ing food coming from the virgin campers was to much . Trig arrived and launched the marquee into the air and we got the BBQ going and got some much needed fosters out the cool bag .

As the cars and drivers arrived and night fell all the banter started ,the fact that we were all prepared to sit outside with no lights while the temperature dropped to near freezing made me relies what a crazy bunch we all were .
Vans and trailers continued to arrive past midnight blinding us with their headlight the swines ,then it was time to decide who was sleeping in the tar dis with Trig .We all had a great laugh watching Mk1 Matt and co getting giddy blowing up thier double matress with their mouths and nearly fainting This was followed by the bundle ritual to test the air bed for leaks i had visions of the bed bursting and them sleeping on the floor.
Clocks set for 7am ,then being the hardened camper i am i jumped inside 2 sleeping bags and pulled my fleece blanket over my head and got a sound nights sleep .
I was woken at 6am by groans and moans from the freezing members in the tar dis tent ,my bloody air bed is flat , my ruddy sleeping bag is wet ,I'm freezing i didn't sleep a wink i was so warm i had to take me blanket off .
Everybody was excited until rain was heard landing on the tents but by the time we were all in the cafe with Trig stuffing down breakfast (cheers Trig )and trig sorting the paper work ,the rain stopped and the cars were taken to the sound checks .
The two old guys doing the checks seemed to take great pleasure in given the NO TOO LOUD arm gestures and sticking the dB meter up to the drivers noses, but after modding there exhausts with odd shaped mufflers most managed to get out on track. There is no better site than watching drivers ragging the hell out there motors and returning with grins from ear to ear and all every day life worries left on the tarmac .There is something so right about blokes having large toys and reliving their youth , we should never grow up
As i was not taken my toy out on track i took a stroll with Retro duraz and Ratters around the circuit to take some photos ,what a perfect day not to hot the smell of clutch brakes and rubber being laid down.Walked the circuit for the first time then back to the tent for some nosh.
I was then very pleased to be offered a ride out by Trig but turned the offer down to go with a slower drivercalled Dave in his orange mk1 mex ,i had seen him whilst touring the circuit taken it very easy round the track as it was his first track day.But unknown to me by the time it was my turn for a ride the said Dave had turned into the Stig and was quite happy to thrown his mex 150% into every corner I did not stop grinning the whole time i was out there being chucked from side to side through every corner .Cheers dave for making my day bud.

Anyway thanks for a great time Trig the event was 100% spot on bud .Lets hope for more trips events as thats what makes owning our old motors the tops for me

                    My awards go to :-

                    Trig making it all happen

Pig for the best banter in the land

Mk1 Matt for just being a crazy dude

Jezz for being able to listen to me for so long

Duraz and Ratters for having the balls to do the circuit

K2 for killing his motor after he got his runs in

Denzil and Dave for making my first track day experience amazing

Pretty much exactly what Ross (RESTELL) wrote above. What a wicked day, I had a really good time.

Up at 4am for the 150mile journey across to Combe, think we arrived about 7.30 still feeling exhausted.
Managed to squeeze in 5 stints on track throughout the day, the open pit format worked really well, think I only queued once for 5mins. Car went well all day, felt really good hooking up some sweet laps toward the end. Journey home was pretty painful through the Friday M25 traffic, but considering the day we just had and the ice cold beer waiting at home it was all well worth it!

Only one moment on the day courtesy of my girlfriend getting a tatste of her first track action (in my car ). On her second lap out she got a feel for lift of oversteer through Quarry she held it though which it pretty impressive if you look at the attached pics! Other than that the day went without incident.
