As worthy, if not more so, than a chequebook busting mega build car. .
Nice one Dave thats amazing!
This car was a big helper in my restoration project. I spent many hours reading what you had done dave and looked at the pictures you had taken to get a good idea of what i had to do. Well deserved !

Good on ya matey-well deserved.
'68 1100 Deluxe-bog stock soon to be a twincam rep.
Tonight I got a copy of CF and saw the feature for real. It's not bad at all is it.
I must admit it seemed like it was never going to get published, but have also got to say it was worth the wait.
I rebuilt another while I was waiting
For all the recent comments I honestly give a heartfelt thanks to all of you. That goes for all the people that commented during the build too. You all helped me in a big way to keep going, I know I had my own (or Freds) deadlines to meet, but keeping you lot fed with updates also fired me on. For me it was definitely something we did together. Thanks for the company
There has been a lot of comments throughout the thread saying how it has inspired and encouraged people with their own projects. I never really thought this was true, but I guess with so many saying it, maybe it is. That in itself is fantastic to hear.
You have to admit the resto section has been absolutely buzzing over this last winter, I have struggled to keep my current resto on the first page, sometimes it went past the second page Good work, and keep it up
Fred is chuffed to bits with the feature, that again means loads to me.
Imagine that.
Not only does your moaning old Dad go and build a niceish first car for you but also gets it with a 6 page feature in a magazine.
I do try.
The car is on its third or fourth gearbox since then, its fifth engine change, third exhaust system, God knows how many interior refits etc etc. I must say the engine bay now looks a whole lot better than in the feature. Smartened up loads with samco hoses etc. Hopefully he will keep hold of it and allow it to keep evolving, as they do.
At the end of the feature, as always there is a "thanks to".
In this case it says "Thanks to all at www.turbosport.co.uk."
I meant it! Couldn't have done it without you, and really do feel honoured to call you my friends.
well im not quite sure wot to say to that.excellent dave.purely excellent
tommy 2000
Yes cant really think of many words to sum that up dave, apart from that you deserve it for devoting your time and money to making your boy happy
And yes i agree, its really brought the resto section alive, you inspiring others to do work means that more restos are kept updated which makes more rip their cars to bits to do restos and so it all becomes a massive growing circle
Good stuff
Well done Dave
Having read the CF article i thought I'd take a look on here to see the details... 21 pages and 2 hours later, unbelievable!
Fascinating and inspiring story, and a great finished car.
Great feature Dave, you definately deserved it! Shame there wasn't room to fit in some build pics in the article but at least people can come on here and see the amazing amount of work that went into the car
She's built like a Steakhouse, but handles like a Bistro
Fantastic David...Top Daddie
I'm on Turbosport frequently but have read all the pages on this thread following the CF article
Dave you done an excellent job,
don't know how you could be bothered to go onto the PC when you've been in the shed til the small hours. You have done an amazing job. Good to see the dodgy alloys where replaced with the RS wheels for the article
Whats the connection on the tail pipe? hope it's not a flame out device!
Fred You are one lucky person to have a Dad who has done so much for you, your car looks great! It is also a hell of a lot cheaper to insure than a modern car!
Many thanks again for a very interesting read.
Heres Dave getting his award for"BEST CAR/RESTORATION PROJECT 2006"
Presented by the lovely Ali
at the 2006 TS Christmas Party
just been readin this thread for the first time, and it makes me want book meself into a monkey spankin emporioum for a good bash wit the cat o nine tails, for i have had my mk1 up on the spit for almost 1yr and nothin done! readin wat dave has done has put the skids under me and im goin back out now this minute and gettin weldin!. and my motor is only slightly rustier than urs dave! great job there and, ur a great motivator.
Saw your feature in CF fellas and came to view the thread on TS. Have to say its bloody brilliant!!! The weird thing about a resto is that just by looking at the finished article you would never know how much graft/sweat/toil has gone into it, but by posting it on here everyone can go back to the beginning and appreciate it. I have spent many a happy hour with the tin snips and mig welder on my old cars (mk1 Golf/mk2 escort/metro etc) and this really brings it all flooding back!
Well done guys, your lads one lucky dude
anyone got a scan of the CF article ?
Cupra Formentor / MR2 Mk3 / Fiat Ambulance

Cupra Formentor / MR2 Mk3 / Fiat Ambulance
Very impressed, not sure why i havnt come across this thread before
I like the changes Fred's done to it instead of just selling up and buying a saxo or a corsa which i bet his mates have more than likely got.
Am interested to see some upto date pictures Dave i know its been bumped and repaired a few times but i think its good its getting used and hes still enjoying it.
Screaming 1300 mexico rep
dave you are an inspiration to us all my mate bought a ropey mk1 off ebay a year ago for £600 and it had suffered severly from tin worm and everyone was telling him to cut his losses and get rid and he almost did until i showed him your projects and he decided to crack on using your work as a guide and now i have a mint bubble arched 14 point caged 6 linked mk1 sat in my work shop waiting to be built up! keep up the good work
Excellent
Hearing stuff like that is damned good.
ill try and get him to start a thread on here hes got enough pics!
1st read this 3 years ago so rooted it out again. Just as good now
Hell of an achievement.
Was wondering where it is/how it looks now Dave.
