        Titan Big tunnel shell
2L Pinto - big valve head, ported polished, piper cam
        Tranx 5 Speed SCCR gearbox
        Atlas axle - ZF Diff
        World cup X-member
Fully turreted - Bilstein and gaz coilovers

I bought it a few months back and have done a couple of events but not had much luck... im yet to get a finish in it!

Now a bit of a strip down and general tidy up. Engine and gearbox have gone away to be rebuilt, looking into the suspension setup (spring rates ect) weld a few little bits up and replate the strut tops, fit steel bonnet and boot on hinges, tidy up inside

Il keep updating with the progress.

        Hi lee ,

Great job on your work on the car -

Im sure I owned this car around the late 90's it had a pinto in it and was nice to drive then - I only needed the engine at the time and sold on the rest on to a guy who re-built it from ground up and looked nice then that would have been around 2000-ish?

Glad to see its still going (if the same car that is)

Id like one myself again - but time is not on my side with work!!

keep up the great peddling and work.

        Cheers

        Darren

Re: Lee's RWD Mk3 Escort Rally Car

Well the pronenade stages didn't go that well really, we had a good start on the Friday bight stages leaving us just inside the top 20, we managed to hold onto that through the day, we had an issue after stage 4. Where we came into service and all was good. When I fired the car up to leave for stage 5 the car dumped all of its oil out, much to my suprise the oil filter was loose!!! Mad rush then to sort than and find a gallon of oil! Iv no idea why all of a sudden it would be loose as it had been on there since before trawsfynydd! Really strange.
Then on stage 8, we came off a kerb and bang! We lost drive, I thought it was a shaft until I changed down into 2nd and we had drive. We had lost gears 3 and 4. I decided to call it a day as we had nothing to prove and we were getting walked all over by the guys with the power!

Stripped the box and we had snapped the main shaft, luckily I had a spare from another box, so new seals, few synchros and needle rollers we got it built back up and back in.

We are out this coming weekend on the Patriot stages at caerwent, car 19

We're currently 3rd in the HOE championship, this is the last round now as swynerton has been cancelled so it's all to fight for, it can go anyway... Fingers crossed!

Re: Lee's RWD Mk3 Escort Rally Car

Well that's the rallying season over! It's been a good eventful packed season which unfortunately hasn't ended quite as if of liked.

We did the patriot stages at caerwent a couple of weeks ago, having been there once before I knew what I was in for! It's an awesome place, with so much going on. We had a fairly good day, sitting in the top 20 from stage one, then on stage 3 we broke the synchro on 2nd gear meaning going up or down into second was making a very bad crunch, so I decided nit to use second to save damaging the gear, so for the rest of stage 3 and the day it was mainly 3rd we had to use which isn't ideal as most of the corners are tight square 90s. We must have been doing something right as we finished the day 12th oa and 4th in class just missing out on 3rd by 2 seconds.

I was lying 3rd in the championship with a very very slim chance of being able to win it if I came home 1st HOE competitor and the lads in second place came back 7th or worse, that would leave us on level points but with me beating them on every round it would give me the win! How ever they have now won the championship by default because they have had another competitors points taken of them who had best the at caerwent because of not displaying the championship decals. I know rules are rules but it has really pissed me off! But hey that's rallying for you!!

Overall we have had a fairly good year, and the hard work on the car has proved right from the results we have had compared to last year:

                Weston park - 9oa 4class
                Down ampney - 10oa 5class
                ROM - 9oa 4class
                Gareth hall memorial - 6oa 2nd class
                Pronenade- DNF
                Caerwent patriot - 12oa 4th class

My plans for next year I'm not sure of yet... But im hoping but to do a few bigger events such as Epynt and maybe Isle of man!

Sorry for the lack of pictures and videos but it's awkward when using an iPhone/iPad to host them, il sprnd a few hours sorting through them and post them up.

Been a little quiet on here... The car is nearly ready for he first event of 2015!

its been a busy few months, I stripped the engine, box and axle off the car after the last event, we now have an extra 30bhp for this year... Nice gain from some custom spec catcams with a set of 48 dellortos, Iv also bought a Quaife 5 speed dog box.
The Msa have started having a big crack down on the use of highly modified chassis cars, with mine being converted to RWD Iv had to apply for a cat 2 logbook which is currently going through as we speak!

Dunno if it's too late lee... But can you chassis mount the engine so it's nearer the bulkhead for better weight distribution?,
and I see there's still lots of weight you can cut from the shell... Hole saw style, is there minimum weight and are you near it?

                            Haha I wish Paul..

Nah I'm not planning on doing the champioship this year, last year was alotnof pressure... Almost took the enjoyment out of it for me. So I'm just going to pick and choose events. The champ last year was a shambles really... Waiting weeks before results were updated, and issues not getting sorted out, some people getting away with things and others not. You know how it is...

Great driving lee and brilliant car! I wish I saw people doing stuff what your up to on this on this side of the pond. You mentioned you upgraded to a dogbox. For your class is it actually a must to be really competitive or is it just for show/ fun?
I ask because here it isn't, rally's seem to be decided by 30+ second gaps at best for the most part.

Re: Lee's RWD Mk3 Escort Rally Car

The main reason for the upgrade is because I broke the box twice last year, broken mainshaft in one event then a broken synchro (brand new synchro I must add) on the next event. The box only being a Tranx is rated to about 200 horse so it was almost at its max, and now with the extra power it would be well over the max. Also I needed to alter the gearing on the car, with the engine having good amounts of torque low down all it wanted to do was wheel spin, Iv now gone for a 2.0 first gear from a 2.4 hoping this will help the car off the line ect...
