Re: Lee's RWD Mk3 Escort Rally Car
A busy couple of weeks for us.....
weekend before last we went down to compete on the Mini epynt stages, cracking event with cracking weather. Super hot in the car and hard on the tyres, first time for us on the ranges in the dry and it's a completely different place compare to when it's wet... The extra speeds you carrying through corners and crests making the car go light and chuck you out and off line is a little scary but it adds to it all we came away with 9th overall and 3rd in class.
The car felt as good as it did at the start of the event, so it was back in the garage for a check over to have it ready for the weekend just gone to do the mid summer stages at Caerwent. All was good with the car other than the half shafts again! Brand new 2 Pce shafts fitted before the event and already they had twisted, a decision was made to put standard ones back in and hope for the best.
Caerwent was very wet for the first 2 stages, which caused the front end to wipe out a couple of times sending us over the kerbs and into the scenery, then it started to dry up nicely and the pace got quicker, on stage 2 I had a bit of a moment and didn't listen to the call of a 90L which again saw us side off over some small kerbs and over a grassed area luckily, stage 3 again dryer and quicker however we had a bit of a detour, a car ahead of us went through the tape on a 90l , when we got there there was no tape and we went through and took the next 90l which was arrowed then followed that road only to come back to the stage but the wrong side of the tape... Bollox. Turned it around and got back to the junction we missed just ahead of the car behind us, other than that we had a clean run, lost approx 40-50secs we think as on stage 4 which was the same stage we were 1 minute faster. Stages 5 & 6 were great stages, dry and very fast and we set 4th and 5th fastest times, came away with 7OA & 2nd in class
Here's a video from epynt... Unfortunately we're not allowed to share anything from caerwent
