Had the pleasure of sitting with Jonathan when he had his first drive of the car yesterday.....I wish you could bottle the laugh that came from him when he gave it a squirt! What a car! He's now driving all the way back to Airlie Beach from Brisbane so I'm sure he will be on here soon to give his version of his feelings.
As Mark has said I took the car for its first squirt and it was pretty overwhelming, I have never driven an escort with that kind of power or a car with a sequential gearbox, I got it home and off the trailer after a 14hr overnight drive and got a chance to open it up a bit and I think the neighbours all ready hate me.
I will try and put some video up if anyone can tell me how, but here are the dyno sheets for the moment
I had my first run in the car at a track day it ran great the oil pressure came down to where it should be but the temp went to high after each run I'm hoping it is the temp sender, I have the safari spec rad coming from grp4 and a better spal fan so it should do the job in North Queensland.
1st over2ltr
3rd overall
Finally got some incar footage from the ingham rally(my second as a driver)
I set fastest time on this run, at the end of the stage I dropped a valve in number 4 and put it through the piston, should be all fixed before Christmas and should see some more power with bigger valves.
I hope the link works. http://youtu.be/5ECF9jf9Dh4
Having a problem like that on a "brand new" engine... Soon it'll be my turn to start a "brand new" one. Hope I'm bit luckier but we all know the risks very well.
Though, I'm glad to know it'll be fixed and ready for a blast in such a short time period.
You already had some serious power figures but, knowing it will be even better...
So the engine got rebuilt and my engine man thinks I dusted it, he said he pulled a heap of dust out of the throttle bodies, I was running my filter to dry.
But after the dyno the engine was stronger through the whole rev range on both bhp and torque, picked up 13hp at 7950rpm now 306bhp at the fly
Am upgrading to the new Motec M130 and will be giving drive by wire a run to sort out the throttle blipper for down shifts, then hopefully no more teething problems and I can finish an event.
So I finally got the car across the finish line and I got second in class and 14th o/a in the first round of the nsw championship , very happy with that as I slowed it up a bit on the last two stages as the clutch slave had gone and had to start it in gear
I had a 1500km drive to get to the event so I didn't want any disappointing breakdowns on the car so the three weeks out from the event were spent getting everything perfect on the car which meant it got a new two piece tail shaft the new m130 went in as with the c127 dash logger and it got dynoed again and ended up with 265hp@ the wheels and it started like a dream old or hot.
It got new softer eibach springs all round which caused me a lot of concern on the media day as I had to play with reigers a lot so it didn't feel like it was going to kill me, by the end of the rally I was a lot closer to where I wanted to be, it's one thing to buy the flash suspension but it's another to know how to use it.
I also put a new power steering kit in it from grp4 that helped a lot
Any way here is a few pics and a couple of links to vids I will have to go through the incar and get a few stages up, it was a fast event I pulled it up at 186km but could have taken it out to 200km

I entered the second round of the Queensland Rally Championship and it was run over the last weekend, I had to grab a navigator I hadn't met until the day as my regular had shoulder surgery, as it turned out he was great and we worked well together.
The first stage was a quick blast to get things going and we set second fastest stage time to my surprise against the evos and wrxs, the rest of the rally we never saw stage times against the other competitors and just had a blast on fast roads with plenty of air time, then at last service we were told we were running second and had a minute over third, so we hit the last two stages with the knowledge we just had to keep it on the road for a first podium for me, well I nearly threw it away with a sixth gear spin on the last stage but luckily I hit nothing and got it over the line for a 1st in class and 2nd O/A which I was pretty happy with.
Now I'm trying to find the funds to run in the International Rally of Queensland next month
