I should also say what a great job Fairfield Motorsport have done with the car so far. They check it over meticulously before and after each event and are really well priced for what they offer. I'm a cheapskate really but don't hesitate to send the car there.
Had a great day out at the Brawdy Stages today finishing 30th Overall and 3rd in Class. I loved the venue and highly recommend it although it was very hard on tyres as it was fast, abrasive and very very hot and I killed 6 in total!
Stage 1 - I was very rusty and had brake problems. We were a minute off pretty much everybody in our class (6 cars total) at the end of it and when we pulled into service the pads were actually on fire! Service crew had a fiddle about and as we didn't have spare pads it was looking bleak at this point!
Stage 2- Whatever the boys did worked and the car was now braking perfectly and we were over a minute quicker and passed the car that started in front of us.
Stage 3 - all fine and we were starting build a rhythym and getting quicker. We were 4th in class at this point. Stage 4 was much the same but we were very badly baulked by the car in front of us (which was also in our class, MK1 Escort) but we left the stage 3rd in class.
Stage 5- This was a bad stage for us, our tyres were dead and we spun a few times including a really scary one on a very fast and open left hander and we were really going at some speed when the rear broke away!
Stage 6 - Drove neat and tidy as were too far behind to catch the cars in front and the ones behind were too far away to catch us and with a finish so close I made sure we got there!
It was a great event and I learned loads about the car. We set some decent times on stages 3,4,5 and I think with a few handling tweaks we'll be in good shape at our next event. I've uploaded some random pics from the event.
It was also good to meet fellow Turbosporter Arwel at the event.
Thanks for reading
I loved the venue, it had sections that were flat out and wide mixed in with some twisty bits. I thought it was great fun. Need to find another event to do now. Doesn't seem to be much in August apart from Epynt and don't feel that I know the car well enough for that yet !
Well done. Its was very hot there, we measured the road temperature at 40deg C . That corner you spun on i believe there was some oil spilt from an engine blow. as one of the juniors ended up well off into the scenery .
Its a great venue.
The best drivers have dead flies on the side windows.

Hi Vince, I was per warned that there was oil there but couldn't see anything so carried on regardless! Should ave listened.
What did you learn about the car by using it in anger?
Hi Mike,
I learned quite a bit really.
1. I need to switch on earlier, I can't just drop a minute on the 1st stage while I'm warming up!
2. I'm overdriving the car and causing myself to understeer out of position while madly spinning the front wheels. I needed to tidy up a bit.
3. A couple of cars caught me and after letting them through I stayed with them easily so I need to figure out how to go that quick without someone to chase!
When I look at the times set on 2,3,4 though we were either quicker or very close to a lot of cars so there's reason to be hopeful for the future.
