My Grp4 Escort sprint and track day car.

    Hi All

I've been Sprinting and Hillclimbing my Grp4 Escort for about 5 years now, I do as many events as I can around work as I have to work a lot of weekends so I just pick and choose the ones I like really. The car is fully road legal and is built as a tarmac rally car but the class I run in (modified production) doesn't need the car to be road legal, doesn't need lights, dash or anything more than a steering wheel, seat and pedals so I have fun keeping the others at bay.

Had lots of class wins and seconds, sprinting is very good for entry level/cheap racing and you don't damage your prize motor unless you prang it!! see http://www.turbosport.co.uk/s...ad.php?t=93506 for a full spec.

          Nice motor Matt, looks sweet!
Where can I find out about hillclimbs and sprints? I do stage rallying but would like to have a go at those!
          Cheers Richard

Re: My Grp4 Escort sprint and trackday Tarmac Rally car.

Well after much ribbing from Gary that my Competition car thread was down the bottom of the last page I thought I should update it.

It has undergone quite a bit of an evolution since I wrote this back in 2005!!

To see most of the work look here

I plan to use this thread to keep the constant improving up to date I promise

So I finally got round to fitting my Christmas presents this week as I had to wait for the Oil Pressure Gauge to come from america, Big thanks to Mark at Need Motorsport for getting me these and managing to keep it a secret that Laura had bought them for me for Christmas even though I was badgering him to get them in for me.

The Oil and Water Temp are a conventional Gauge using stepper motor technology so they are super accurate but normal in that they just give you the reading.

The Oil Pressure though is a pro gauge which you can set up to your own warning levels both high and low and you can select the back lighting to change and flash at critical levels to warn you of impending doom If that is not enough you also have configurable outputs to fire relays or extra warning lights, and peak recall to keep your prized engine safe and sound

Here are a couple of pics to show the oil pressure gauge in both modes and the other gauges working.

I know that our cars are never really finished and I do love my 4 spd Dogbox but I just need more gears and a bit more top speed so I think this will be next on my shopping list once I have saved up enough money

That's it for now, more soon I hope just not 3 years later

This is one of the cleanest, and best prepared escorts I've ever seen, and its being used for the purpose that it was built for too, which is a credit to you Matt.

The Stack stepper gauges look great. Liking the new one with alarms too.

Its quick enough already, you dont need more gears! You just need wings to keep it on the deck.

Very nice, liking the gauges Matt, looking at getting me some one day too. Gary has the fuel pressure in his car, works a treat
