Re: My Grp4 Escort sprint and track day car.

Thanks guys for the great comments.

I guess its about the speed of change mostly. I know Spud has a Tractive as well and they aren't tiring to use, the shift is so slick and my flatshift is done by the engine ECU (MBE 9A4) so it does it on spark retard and not spark cut as most piggy back systems do so it's super smooth. I've got it reinstating the power at 70% of completed shift too so it's even faster.

Tom and I are planning in doing the Mid Summer Cearwent and then the Lindisfarne on Otterburn later this year, that's all the budget will allow so far.

Will be good to see it back out competing mate

Feel free to go ahead and develop that prototype paddle-shift kit so that its honed to perfection before I need one

          Cheers,

          Paul.

Re: My Grp4 Escort sprint and track day car.

Matt and Tom competed on the Midsummer Caerwent Rally yesterday in the scorching heat!! Well the sun wasn't the only scorching thing on the day as they finished 3rd overall and 2nd in class!!

A top job done on a rally which claimed so many cars, as always with Caerwent there were smashed wheels and tyres aplenty from the unrelenting kerbs, however thoughts must go to the crew of car 51, a white MK2 Escort crewed by Martin Holt and Robert Sartin; they had a massive accident going head first into a wall which I believe left Robert with a fracture neck, so on behalf of myself and all of us in our team we hope they both have a speedy recovery, particularly Robert.

This aside however, very proud indeed of the boys on a fantastic result! I honestly believe that well over half of the field had retired come the start of the final stage, if not more! The heat also being a big factor in doing its best to try and destroy cars, Matt's included! A few minor niggles through the day, firstly with a sticking throttle cable which was replaced and given extra insulation, a plug on the water temp sensor having a bad connection causing an intermittent fan meant it got a tad warm! Then with the massive heat an alternator gave up the ghost, however nothing was going to stop us and once again the car performed so well, with the SBD Duratec proving all those critics wrong once again!

I will let Matt come along and give a more in depth report on the driving itself and the conditions on stage, but once again well done boys, another well deserved placing and your first podium finish!!!

Re: My Grp4 Escort sprint and track day car.

I think Paul Alex has shamed me into doing more regular updates ALthough he's been pretty poor after he's got his shiney car back

I fitted new clear plastic headlights before Caerwent as the last event smashed my glass Ford ones to bits.

I've been busy this week wrapping my exhaust manifold as after the rally on such a hot day the under bonnet temps can get just amazing. I'm also having a trip down to SP Racing paint and prep on friday to have some serious surgery on my bonnet to let more heat out.

I also listen to Paul Alex too much as he leads me astray by pointing out lovely shiney stuff which I just cant resist.

GOLD heat reflective foil from Cam Auto. It's made by DEI and it's an absolute sh*t to get on without creases.

                        I love it

More pics when it's all together and bonnet is done next week

Looking great as always - cant wait to see the bonnet mods

The lights are from Mini spares in Potters Bar (they have a branch in Harrogate as well) all they need is a small extension on the top adjuster angled slot thingy, other than that they fit straight into the escort bowl. They are about £55-60 for the pair.
