It's not just the shocks that matter, you've got to make sure the link bar angles are right too.You may have to raise the front.
TBH the best thing would be to get it professionally set up then make minor tweaks until you're happy, you need a good base line to start with then you can always go back if changes you make don't work

I totally agree, its a bit beyond me!

i'll have to try and get the car up to garys at retro over the winter! the trouble is my 4 link has been badly fitted!
      which works against the handling!

you still have to set the car up to the driver tho, thats why I have gone for softer springs recently, which has been more biased towards a rally setup, and I seemed to prefer the feel of the car, but its just a bit too soft!

I've tried a few different setups on the front, compression struts with drop linked roll bars etc...

I'm sure i'll get there in the end, I just need a bit of help!

You set good times at Lydden on saturday
I'd say you need to still go a little stiffer on the front though.
Stop worrying about the link bars, the car can be set up around them or maybe the area where the bolts foul can be releived a little.

          1970s technology , again Graham

putting harder springs makes it under steer more.

having nose up makes it understeer.

i suppose it depends on where you start and how much harder you go roger,

i can only speak from personal experience which has been on tarmac events with sticky tyres or slicks you want stiff springs, my old race car a bmw 2002 ( which has many simularities with an escort) just got better and better the stiffer i went on the springs, it used to run 700lb on the front, the current race car which is heavier up front is slighty better with 600lbs and absolutely yuk if i drop to 500's

Many thanks Nick the car did feel better and more competitive.

I have been looking online to see if there are any photos up of mine, just to see how it was handling!

                What happened with your steering?

I'm looking forward to next year.

What happened with your steering? TBH all I've done is unload the car so haven't looked at it,I'm stripping it over the winter anyway so I'll find out sometime but the fact that the adjuster nut on the tca has clouted the side of the x-member isn't a good sign,it could just be the rose joint that's bent though

                    Thanks for that Nick.

Well, I hope it was nothing too serious.
Have you decided what you are doing with the car next year yet?
