well done, thats some fantastic news , shows great building and great driving, but you've got a tittle to defend for next year now so best get the spanners and welders out

the first step is already in hand, wednesday im going pop over to emerald and get dave to do a power run, if the engine hasnt lost any power i'll just do a bearing check and it can go as it is next year

Congratultions on winning the championship!!!! Well done , you deserved it!! I believe you are a true Turbosport hero!!
And no shame in giving the old girl another seson of racing.
It's better to perfect the new shell before its debut. Well thought out shell makes life (read: car) just that much easier (read: faster).

Cheap enough but bulkhead mods aren't allowed in DMN either (unless it's a class A car)

thanks again for the nice comments guys,

i firmed up the winter plans a little more today, unfortunatly it means more work!
we chucked my motor back on the rollers, its missing about 20bhp and too rich at the top end a sure sign the rings/valves arnt sealing as well as they were. leaning the mixture and advancing the timing a bit would of prob restored some of the lost power but at the end of the day teh only proper answer is a freshen up,

the $64 question is do i just tickle it or hot it up a bit more by getting a 302 degree cam and fitting that on the intake and moving the current 292 to the exhaust which currently has a 284 cam, whilst at the same time switching to top hat shims

You know you want to do the upgrade. However where would you get the most gains for next year. Would a few sets of new tyres, updated suspension or maybe putting the shell on a diet get better results. There is also reliability to consider. An more powerful engine puts all the components under more stress which might effect your finishing record.

Have to agree Graham you have to ask yourself wether you can compete with Gavins 205 for out and out pace or is the sensible approach to make sure you have ultimate reliability (not saying the upgrades would make it less reliable) afterall that is what gave you such a great result in the championship this year,it has got me thinking that if i could afford to do a full season that maybe i shouldnt worry about pace as much as reliability

over the course of a full season reliability deffo is more important than outright pace,

upgrading the engine is a tough one to answer, whilst im down on power so is gavin he blew up his trick race engine earlier in the year so hes more down on power than i am! power and handling are very much a balence, if your racing someone with good handling to be able to come from behind requires a lot more power, but if you havnt good enough handling you cant make use of the power, for instance, its bloody hard to say with bill if he's in front, in that situation better to give away a bit of power, but if im in front of bill and want to catch gavin power becomes much more important, and if im infront carefull driving and more power makes up any handling deficit

weight comes into it too, power to weight ratio my car and bills are near identical, but my car pulls high speed better, light weight cant over come aerodynamics, horse power can

there are lots of places to spend money, im looking at replacing the modded bmw lsd with a gripper or kaas unit, that will give me less lock on turn in but more power on which suits my driving style, although i seem to always make up ground on the brakes into the tight corners i dont have the high speed bite/confidence to leave paddock hill bend late so i need to work on the brakes, a rear beam swap is on the cards, taking a couple of inches out the ride height should do wonders

engine wise, a bit more power isnt going to stress anything as long as i dont wind the revs up more, i've been using 8 or even 8.2 on occasion, though i generally shift at a little over 7k i figure i can push the peak higher without touching the limiter

I'll agree with that....If I'd had more reliability and we'd had the replacement round for Donington I'd of been 2nd overall in the championship aswell as winning Class E

That's the point that I was trying to make about my car....IF I had more power I'd lose some of the handling

My brakes are crap compared to yours but the handling makes up for it so maybe you need to work on the handling and buy some new tyres? Smaller is probably the way to go now that you don't have the power and added weight of a turbo.

dunno my brakes arnt that big they are only 300mm because they were origonally engineered to go in 15 inch wheels, i think the main issue i have is the pad material doesnt suit in an n/a application, the slower speeds and later braking points just dont pile enough heat into them

yes i know i need different tyres, they simply havnt worked like the tyre man thought they would, they are intended to be on a car with similar power so on paper they should work, but my car doesnt have as much weight or proper full areo package, they'd be great fro a trackday though you could go all day and not wear them out

You know that you can make the engine more powerful. What is not so clear is how to make the car handle better. What ever work you do on the handling will go to good use on the new shell so will be work well done. Once you get the handling the way you want it you can then build the engine that you want for the new shell also.
