Its Nomex sleeving, as used by the MOD on their milspec looms. I used to work for a company who made looms, so it was easy to come by. I gave what I had left away to a fellow Turbosport member. Sorry.
The rear wing is now fitted.
I cut out the two brackets for the rear wing from 4mm steel, then shaped and drilled them, so the wing is now bolted to the car. The bonus is that the tailgate can still be removed without disturbing the wing, so all my fag packet sketches paid off. Pics below.
Hand cut from 4mm mild steel, radiused using combination of angle grinder, round and flat files.
M6 Rivnuts hold the brackets to the bodyshell
Bolted the wing to the brackets.
Angle of attack is still to be determined. And I shall add adjustable threaded rods from the rear of the wing to the bottom of the brackets where they bolt to the shell, so add rigidity. With the wing bolted to the brackets, the wing itself is very stiff, with no side to side movement.
I'm just concerned about the brackets collapsing at high speed now, hence the plan to add the stifeners. I could also add material to the arms.

My God Graham, it seems that the world certainly is a small one........... That spoiler used to be mine!!!!!! I bought it from ebay in 2005 and it had been on a Radical Race car, I then trimmed the end plates and fitted it to my BMW Compact rally car I was building at the time...........
I thought I had taken a pic when I fitted the red anodised dome head bolts but I can't find it.
Re: Grahamb's Mk1 Fiesta XR2 Duratec HE Hillclimber
Wow, tis a small world.
Its perfect for the Fiesta, couldn't have wished for a better sized element.
Are the red anodised bolts Loctited in? I'm going to have to drill them out as the allen key has stripped the hex hole in the head, trying to undo them.

No, the bolts shouldn't have any Loctite on em, the heads are very soft and if you aren't careful, you can knacker the hex up tightening them.
They should drill out easy, you should be able to just drill the head off and screw the rest out.
Re: Grahamb's Mk1 Fiesta XR2 Duratec HE Hillclimber
First running board is now finished. Its bolted on with two additional support brackets at either end underneath, and I've made a blanking cap for the leading edge of the board that protrudes in to the front wheel arch, to stop the box section from filling up with grit and crap whilst on the car.
Four M6 balljoints arrived from RS this morning. I've also ordered 10mm diameter aluminium bar off ebay. I'll make a pair of wing supports from the bars, with a balljoint at each end of each bar.
These droplinks or pushrods or whatever you want to call them will brace the rear edge of the rear wing against the bottom edge of the wing support brackets.
The joints are rated at 70kg breaking force, which should be enough given I'm running one droplink at each end of the wing. They were only £2.49 each so its a cheaper and lighter solution than using rod ends.
Time to start on the near side running board next.
Re: Grahamb's Mk1 Fiesta XR2 Duratec HE Hillclimber
Finished off the second running board late last night, and bonded + bolted it to the shell. When the sealant has cured I'll remove the masking tape.
The wing brackets are ready for collection from Faircharm Restorations in Leicester, so I'll collect those tomorrow and bolt the Radical rear wing back on to the car.
Next week I'll be removing the front spoiler and trying to make the Kamei splitter fit.
Decision: Do I polish up the aluminium running boards, paint them, or wrap them?
