    Re: My Mk1 Fiesta XR2

We cured the rev limiter (bloody ECU engines ) but he decided to check out the marshals post at the bottom of the hill. So now I need a wing and a bonnet

The Mk1 Escort was good, and he went out on slicks and it suited him. Dad didn't change off the A048s all day, but I think he should have done.

In answer to your question... No. The DVD is just the timed runs, although there are a lot of casualties!

        Cheers

Propping the bonnet open was so last year. She now sports two black eyes so's not to look like she's lost a headlight.

            Thanks.

Not touched the head, boggo std at the moment. Just some higher lift cams.

My new 2.1 will need a new head though, fully intend to look in to CNC heads to keep costs down.

Aiming for around 220BHP, with sensible rev limit, and bags of torque for the slow tight twisty stuff like Harewood and Loton Park.

Took the car to Northampton Motorsport on Tuesday for a setup. She now has -1.5 camber and 3.5 castor on the front. Will hopefully feel a difference at MIRA on the 24th May.

that doesnt sound like much camber for a competition car to me or are you on crossply slicks?

Happen to listen to what others are running, or take advise.

I can easily dial in more camber, but she's frisky enough given the short wheel base. I'm running -1.25 camber on the rears too, which helps with stability on the long fast corners.

I'm running Michelin M00 17% treaded slicks (all I could afford at the time, but great in the wet and dry)

OK, so latest mod is a Longacre mirror, same as the BTCC boys use. Roll cage mounted, weighs next to nothing, and gives a nice wide view of whats lurking in the background. I've a track day in July at the Snet, so its probably a good idea to see whats behind. Just in case I sand on the brakes, as she does pull up rather well.

The Race Technology Datalogger has been reprogrammed. It was new, out the box, but kept corrupting cards, so I had no data from MIRA to show for my 1st in class.

I'm also in the process of wiring in a regulated +12V feed to the Sony bullet camera, so the footage from the DVR recorder is 'interference free'.

I need to get the 2.1 Project engine underway, so if anyone knows of any companies in the Leicester area who can do quality rebores, I can get the 2.0 block machined and ready for the re-assembly, using the forged JE Pistons and Eagle rods from the States.

                        TIA Graham

My next event is the Brecon Epynt Hillclimb in June, not a round of my championship, but I couldn't turn down the opportunity of playing amongst so many tasty escorts, and great drivers too. Windy, watch your mirrors 8-)

Many thanks. I'll get in touch with them. Cov is only 25 miles away, straight down the M69, so its not too far for me to travel.

Block is now with Chesman Motorsport for acid dip, rebore and skim, and the crank will be lapped only.

Weighed the block, which is 35KG, and the crank, which is 15KG, which makes the Zetec quite a lot of weight to be carrying around. Some of the Escorts at Epynt on Sunday were Duratec powered, with mouth watering performance for a lot less money. The cars them selves were also immaculately turned out.

This is the run from my quickest attempt at the hill. Looks to me like the key to a quick ascent was the speed carried around the first corner and up the long ascent. I didn't have the commitment around the first corner, nor the grunt to pull the car quickly enough up the hill, so the new engine should make a great difference next year.

This is my Youtube video from the fastest run: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F37FJhAz7-8YouTube - Epynt Hillclimb, June 2008.

Please excuse the 'shouting'. What she lacks in power I have to make up for in encouragement.

Next outing is Snetterton at the Performance Ford track evening, July 24th. My entry for Shelsley Walsh was 'rejected', which is a major downer for me, as it was a hill I'd been looking forward to visiting since the start of the new year. Not any more now, though. Epynt is far more challenging, and I'll defo be back next year, with 200+ BHP which will make the world of difference. I just need to offset the 50KG of iron I'm having to carry under the bonnet.
