Hoping that she'll be even more competitive next year.

And to think I tried to sell her last year. What was I thinking?

      Re: My Mk1 Fiesta XR2

Had some fun at Snetterton yesterday afternoon on the PF Track Session. Did around 30 very quick laps in 3 stints, and overtook loads of other cars.

Broke my off side front tie bar on my last lap, no damge to the car fortunately, but it means I can now start to strip the car down and fit the Duratec in.

Here is the datalogger screen shot.

The "Analog 1V" graph is the voltage from throttle position sensor.

So no bull, 112 max speed and 1:27 was my best lap, and that was nursing the cracked front tie bar, which I knew would let go eventually, so it was fun whilst it lasted.

The Fiesta is now safely in the garage, and the Zetec is coming out in the next few nights. The Duratec will then go in and the modifications will commence.

So the dismantling has begun. Seems crazy to take a working car to bits, but she'll be quicker than ever when the Duratec 2.0 is up and running.

Should go well indeed with the duratec, will save a bit of weight in the process too which should help handling and braking

Trumpets should point the right way too now I take it

such a tidy car should add a fair lick of pace with the new setup tho.

where'd you get the airbox from? been thinking i should make one for mine, but that looks really neat

Its a Pipercross air box, from Demon Tweeks. You have to choose the back plate for your application, and it comes with a length of duct hose to feed the air in to the box.

The Duratec has the inlet on the front, zorst on the back and weighs a fair amount less than the Zetec. Plus I'm removing weight all the time. No more need for the Fiesta engine cradle, or the old rod gear linkages, or the long exhaust system/manifold, or the clutch cable etc etc.

                          Just a little bit!

I've been contacted by an engine builder that is willing to give me a big discount in return for advertising. So I was going to go for 8250rpm limit, rods, pistons, and around 230BHP. But now the costs are less than I thought, I may go for something a bit more extreme.

The IB5 box will be getting Quaife internals and the ATB from my BC box to cope with the power.

Tonight I'll be starting the install of the Duratec. Gearbox is about 1cm longer, but the block and everything else is very comparable to the Zetec, its just a bit taller thats all. I'll be retaining the intermediate driveshaft on the rear of the Duratec, and I'm praying this leaves me a big enough gap to squeeze the exhaust between the shaft and the bulkhead. The Zetec had 30cm between the block and bulkhead, but the zorst was on the front....

Looks like loads of room for the exhaust to me Graham, now that does look tidy in there! Bring on the Duratec power and torque!!
