Was suprised that you wasnt there Gavin you did it a couple of years ago didnt you?? The Sea Wall stages were different this year they were nice and wide but still slippy and the swapped from the top track to the bottom track as a chicane which was quite good fun!

Graham i think you right!! He can still pedal the car on the sprints when he is in the right frame of mind!!

Re: My MK6 Escort RWD Rally Car

We had a Slippy day over a woodbridge and the car worked well with the new engine we have now gone 2.0 litre Duratec, so i let dad drive on this event to shake it down and the car didnt miss a beat all day! Ill take some pics on Sunday for this thread.
Gave the car a good spanner check during the week and we are heading down to Epynt for the hillclimb this weekend which Dad and I are double driving, its along way to go for 5 miles of motorsport but we get to see the Welsh side of the family and have welsh cakes sitting on the range watching the other cars run up the hill!! Full report next week!

Re: My MK6 Escort RWD Rally Car

Heres a few pics of the new Engine, 2.0 Duratec Built and now sponsered by Burton Power.

Had to upgrade the gearbox now to the 60g so we didnt blow the type9 up with the Duratec power.

It has a mild 225 BHP and 160 Tourques and we rev it to 8.5k im more than happy with that power its 50bhp more than the BDA and much more driveable and im looking to do more loose events this year so loads of power isnt a must!

My MK6 Escort RWD Rally Car, now Duratec power

After the Epynt Hill climb i gave the car a good once over and the DU bushes were slightly worn on the front so i sent the casing of to Ian Rix and made some new bushes for me as the 909 DU is hard to come by and i needed them back ASAP, so put all that back together last night and raised the car to Gravel Setting and put Knobblies on and all set to go up to the Dukeries on Saturday.

This will be the first proper event for the car with me driving with the new engine so hopefully ill get the old girl to the finish, first time for Dad on pace notes so we wont be able to push to hard untill he is used to them!

I thought i had done an Epynt Hill Climb write up but it must have not loaded up, anyway a quick re cap of it, the car was playing up the Fuel Pressure light and it was missing, so changed Pumps and Filters on the day and wound the pressure up!

Even with those problems and using knackered Slicks that came on some wheels i still managed 10th O/A 2nd in Class couldnt be bothered to put decent tyres on the back was enjoying getting the old girl fully sideways!!

Good Luck on the Dukeries Ashley (and Tudor too!!) hope you enjoy that extra HP and Torque on the gravel. The 60G should be nice to use on the loose too.

Good result on Epynt, were you in the rally car class?? Was it Graham Hollis that won that class?

Re: My MK6 Escort RWD Rally Car

We headed up to Southall Racecourse friday lunch time for the Rainworth Skoda Dukeries Forset Rally, using many of the forests in that area including Sherwood Pines where Robin Hood is from haha.

Went through scrutineering no problems and then went up and down the measured mile about 6 times trying to calibrate the new trip meter, finally got it right using 300.

Back to the hotel for plenty of beers and Banter.

We were running car 120 and this year ahead of the 4WDS which was much better so we didnt have the stages cut up so much!

SS1 the intercom was palying up in the Q which i have now traced to my headset playing up so need to send my helmet back to Peltor or get some one to repair and test (any ideas). So drove the first stage as i saw it. The car is bloody awsome now with plenty more power and the new box is alot nicer! Under braking she stopped extremly well so was being pretty brave as dad was trying to shout the notes but i couldnt hear a thing, so was only pushing where i could see the road or follw the tree line! Came out of the stage happy and 12th quickest!

Pulled out onto the road section and the clutch started slipping so that what we thought was the end of that! Pulled over and made a phone call to Burtons and they said we might have to use a 6 paddel not a 4 and im like why did you sell and fit that one if it wasnt F***ing good enough, ive only bought what they told me to use!! So now we had a look at the OS map and were gonna nurse it back to service. When i got in the car i had a good clutch again so we blasted up to SS2 and we thought it had just got a bit hot!

SS2 was only a short stage and we were flying airborn in a few places, but trying a little too hard and had a half spin quickly corrected with a neat handbrake turn the wrong way up the stage only dropped 9 seconds on my mate John Taylor who we shared the same time on SS1.

We headed into SS3 which was Sherwood Pines 7 mile stage and i was hoping the clutch problem was over! But about half way in it was slipping again so i tried going in a higher gear and lowerring the revs to get out the stage but then it just let go and we had no drive again so pulled off with the finish boards in sight. We then watched a few of the 4WD boys through its another world they are so quick and look like no dramas! Then guess what when the car had cooled down had clutch again we could drive. So blasted to the SSF and headed to SS4.

Once again got through most of the stage then the clutch was slipping like mad again so pulled off and called it a day!

Ill just say the clutch reservoir was always cold and hadnt boiled and remain full off fluid and none had leaked, i thought i had a twin plate in the car but when i took it out on sunday it was only a single plate so i wasnt happy! I never took the thing out the box when i bought it just gave it to Peter Maylum for the dummy build then onto Burtons for when they built the new engine!

So now Burtons have supplied me a AP Gold 6 paddel twin plate jobby!! SO im going to fit all that up and make sure it is set up correctly but im pretty sure that the clutch they supplied 1st just wasnt up to the Job!

Unfortually there was a driver killed on stage 7 where he left the road and hit a tree or something solid in the ditch where it sounds like he died at the scene This is such a rare incident these days and my thoughts are still with the brother who was navigating anf his family and friends!

Before i knew this had happened we went out to watch and give some stick to my mate John who was still running and im sure some of you have seen the naked thread,

Re: My MK6 Escort RWD Rally Car

Finally it has all come good again!

Quinton Stages Rally based in South Wales using some of the WRC stages like Halfway and Route 60

After the Essex charity i needed some better luck where i twisted the front hubs along the sea wall hitting some rather large bump and smashing the windscreen in the process, so with that behind us and my dad putting the car back togther and Ian from IPB Motorservices sorting the tracking we were ready on the morning we were heading down to Wales!!

SS1 was the longest of the day using both Halfway and Route 60 joined together these stages run on to the Epynt Ranges and uses a small bit of tarmac on the crossover! With this event i had to get to the finsh so some caution was applied for about the 1st 2 miles then i put my foot down even tho dad had completely lost himself in the notes!! Just before the crossover my water bottle had made its way in the the footwell so i had to back right off loosen my belts and get it back into its holder tighten my belts and get my foot down again! Dad had finally found himself in the notes but was far to slow with them and soon got lost again, so i was mainly driving as i saw it! As we approached a 4left Owen Le Roy was running up the stage waving me over to the right as we went round the corner his Astra was on its side and his navigator was getting out both ok! I wasnt looking at times at any point during the day as i just wanted to finish (and beat my mate John Taylor in his Mk2) who we were about 11 seconds quicker on the first stage 40 O/A!
After that stage we had Aux service car was fine and running well and i was just thinking Now that is what rallying is all about the stages were so smooth and flowing it was awsome!

SS2 With the buzz of the 1st stage i was in a good flow already and dad dint loose himselof in the notes till about half way through the stage this time and was far to slow with the infomation he woudl say "double caution" pause and i would shout "double caution what which Fing way" haha so drove that one as i saw it to but the stages were good and we were on new tyres and i wasnt going 10 thenths we went 37th quickest and we went 22 seconds quicker than john!

Then there was a service hault i think and gave the car a once over topped up with fuel and checked tyre pressures and had a cup of tea and tried to explian to dad how i wanted the notes!

SS3Dad was a bit better on the notes this time but was only slightly behind so was trying to speed him up half way through it was raining but didnt really affect us so keep it on and there was some nice handbrake turn hairpins which i nailed each time taking a nice line away from the inside where logs and rocks where that were flicking other people in to rolling!! We were 19 secs quicker than John and 37th again through that one!

The next stage SS4 was the worst for us back to Halfway which was a nice flowing stage but it carried on raining and we dont have a heater or heated screen so we misted up about a mile in so had managed to wipe a part of the screen to see through and pushed on, to be honest going far to quick with no notes and only being able to see 1/4 of the road so we lost 21 seconds to John and was 68th overall!!

The rest of the day was awsome now with some Mr Muscle on the windscreen and the rain had stopped we were going well again! John boy by now had closed in on me and was trying to make up more of the gap while i was still quicker on the next stage but then he was quicker on the last two!

The final stage after our final service was a repeat from the morning where a few cars had rolled so i was defo gonna take it easy to get to the finish! About a mile in dad was getting every note spot on!! lol So i thought f**k it lets get a wriggle on and gave it the beans and the 2.1 Duratec was singing her heart out through the Welsh counrtyside where Dad was brought up all those years ago!! We both really enjoying it and there it was the flying finish we had done it finished our first rally of 2010 (with me behind the wheel that is)! Actually had a tear in my eye and thought it was all worth it!!

Best Rally of my Life! 31st Overall 1st in Class and 17th overall out of the 2WDS
John was 32nd O/A 5 seconds behind! Plenty of banter in the pub that night!!

I have plenty of incar footage as soon as ive loaded it up you can all see my hand signals at my dad saying i need more info or pointing at points he should be able to find in the notes!!
