I'll look forward to seeing some vids of it in action, looks the bollocks as it is.
By the way, Maxsport tyres were made to be used as door stops, if you look closely on the sidewall's it says, "not to be used as a tyre", lol

I know...they came free on a pair of nice wheels I bought.....I expect them to be hard and have no grip on a Darrian, however they are only for a test and running the car in for a few road miles (I think Maxsport are a road legal make?). The compound is a yellow dot whatever that means
We always use Dunlop rally tyres on the stages, X12's and X22's (also cut as wets).......but I don't want to waste any of them on a first test.
Anyway will know much more about how Blue Boy goes by Sunday Lunchtime!
we took the Darrian for a little test a couple of sundays ago....we used the roads on my industrial estate as they are behind electric gates so on a Sunday there is nobody to run into........
Unfortunately it was quite wet and the surface (which is concrete/tar) is covered in diesel (lots of trucks) and muddy in places (nice plant hire people next door but 1 to me).
I must say it was great to finally drive the car properly in its new format......after all this time.
The car ran pretty well, with no real issues.....the charging system stopped working which we traced to a small intermittant fault in the alternator. The only real issue we had was that we had rubbish tyres, it was cold, wet and greasy which meant I managed more spins than in my whole rally career (well not really, but it was quite a few).
Had a few brake issues, but again couldn't really make a judgement in the conditions...the fronts were locking very easily..........however the car has the best handbrake I have ever experienced, turing it round easily in it's own length.........having all the weight at the back helps as once it starts to go.....It's Gone! quick quick!
here is Jamie, my middle kid....he's 4 and loves 'helping' in the garage and going to watch rallys.
I don't normally keep him in a shopping trolley.....honest.
The best bit of the day was taking him for a quick blast at the end....he loved it and was telling everybody at school that he was driving Daddy's racing car!
The exhaust is away just now having a catalytic convertor fitted in it to keep the MSA and MOT men happy...then it's off to 'that there Big London' to have the final engine mapping done!
well impressed mate, real shame you couldnt keep the bike lump, just incase ive missed it. what gear box are you useing on the zetec? is it one out of a formula ford

Cheers! It is an Elite transaxle. These are specially made for formula and rally cars. Mine is a 5 speed with sequential gear change.
Actually we are in the process of changing the mechanism...orginally I had made it with a cable change...but when we went testing it was crap, so we are in the middle of fabricating a rod change system so there will be no slop or play in it at all. Hopefully!
Small update. Here is the sumpguard which I have just knocked up. It fits across the whole engine bay and then tapers towards the back and is folded up to follow the contour of the gearbox. It fits up to a subframe bolted up to the gearbox mountings at the back...to remove it you undoe two bolts and then it slides out....so the sumguard can be removed in about 30 seconds.....but due to the subframe we can jack the back of the car on it.
We have to have a catalytic convertor fitted to the car to comply with MSA and DOT regulations......this is a bit of a bugger as we had the complete exhaust fabricated by Andy Fraser at Promotive racing exhausts, in stainless....BEFORE we knew this....Doh!...anyway Andy has now fitted a brilliant hi-flow stainless steel cat from an MV Augusta racing bike (these things do 200mph!).....
We needed a 'straight' piece of pipe to cut out and replace and the only area was right near the end after the silencer.....so the cat is right at the back of the car.....you shoud see the little bugger glowing when it's working hard..it looks proper 'hard'....very WRC car....there is now a lot more heat shielding in my car than before!
