Car is mid engined and there is zero airflow arround the motor. The engine is dry sumped and the cooler is in one of the side pods.

We are relocating the remote oil filter and some of the pipework further fom the exhaust headers. We are also doing some 'shielding' to take heat out of the bay more directly and finally we have a very compact 6" high power fan which we are fitting to the cooler itself to improve airflow.

      Hopefully this lot works!

Just a quick update....have relocated almost all of the oill system so that it is away from radiated heat from the exhaust (not an easy task in my car)....we also fitted a powerful fan on the cooler, which I now think we wont need. In sustained running the oil is now much cooler than before....I can't believe how much it was being influenced by the exhaust.

Still having BIG clutch issues....we have a brand new paddle clutch and rebuilt slave cyinder......however after 5 miles of testing the cylinder failled totally again......instant loss of hydraulics and a clutch which wouldn't dissengage....gearbox is a dogbox so it drove home Ok without the clutch but when we pulled the box off fluid was everywhere....at least it only takes 3 men 15-20 mins to get the gearbox/diff out on a Darrian (including removing gearchange, bodywork, exhaust and driveshafts).

We are supposed to be doing a last minute entry for a rally this Saturday, but this looks unlikely now.

What Clutch cylinder do you use mate? I'm wondering if maybe you have an alignment issue or more likely, could it be possible you are over travelling your clutch cylinder.

I know the Titan one I use only has a 5mm travel from fully closed so it is vital that your spacer to set the distance is spot on.

Also, again with my Titan cylinder it HAS to run with Castrol Response DOT4 fluid as it has preservatives in it that protect the seals, other fluids just eat them and they fail quite quick, I found this out the hard way!!!

We had exactly the same issue with the fluid...it ate all the seals first time round...now use same fluid as you. We have identified the problem and it is overtravelling. Elite are making a new spacer to bring the slave forward, so hopefully that is fixed in time as we are suppossed to be rallying it Saturday.

That's good then mate, I thought it must have been something like that, it's important to have a travel stop on your clutch pedal too as I think you can still overtravel them even if the spacer is correct with a 0.625 master cylinder.

Good luck on Saturday if you make it. I'm out next at Cearwent end of March. Where's your next event?

If the parts arrive in time from Elite then we will put the box back in and the rebuild the back of the car thursday night....then off to Manby in Lincolnshire on friday (3 hours for us) for the rally Saturday....its a very fast airfeld, but a windswept Godforsaken place covered in 3" of frozen slime and shoite.

The following week we are at Anglesey...I know you have done sprints there but you would love the rallies and you would do well there I feel.....you must come up for the summer events we all stay at the venue, its a good laugh...

the following week it's 3 sisters go kart grand prix track for 25 miles of 2nd and 3rd gear stuff

                    3 rallys in 3 weeks..........it's like 20 years ago when I started!

Hope to see you on a few this year.....I owe you some brass washers.

                      Re: Moggy's Darrian T9

Videos from a wet Manby last weekend....we were leading the class comfortably until clutch problems (AGAIN!) resulted in the car getting stuck twice on stages stalled but in gear and no clutch to dissengage....this dropped us right down, but we came back to third at the end. In the first video we are a little distracted as we have the event winning 6R4 just behind us for the second lap (he didn't get past!)

If anyone ever tells tries to tell you that Darrians are NOT twitchy....they are lieing!...small driver error in this last one!

                        Re: Moggy's Darrian T9

We did another rally last week...Roskirk Stages and the car is finally starting to come together......we finished 6th overall on this one. Only problem was baulking and hitting a Fiesta who was in the way which damaged the NS rear arm.....watch out for a bit of touring car racing in this video.......I was going for a duck down the inside into a left hander but decided it was far too stupid and then got him on the exit of the following right....I clipped him as we passed and that's when the arm was damaged. Not sure what it is with my Darrian....it seams to be attracted to Fords?....it ran into an escort who was in our way the other time!

Nice one. The engine sounds sweet. How were you brakes this time?

I don't understand why slower cars that are caught up just don't move over, back off and let the faster car past? Its not like there is prize money to win!!

Cheers Paul........yes I don't know either....he could have moved over easily without any time loss...he wasn't in my class and was many places behind on the overall leaderboard....maybe he didn't see us,.....we are too low and small!

Brakes are getting there now, just a few more things to try yet.

I was at 3 Sisters in the afternoon and your car looks really well set up - nice and neutral thro' the corners (and obviously very well driven). Sounded lovely too.

I was amazed at how many cars don't appear to have had any thought put in to what the suspension is doing thro' the corners.
