Re: KA Championship rally car rebuild

Small update today, I've fitted rear mudflaps to the car. For cars logbooked in 2009 it is mandatory to fit flaps to the rear. Due to the fact that I will have to have the logbook updated shortly it seemed the best idea to make sure I'd covered all bases!

It will come as no surprise to some that I spent longer than the job might have suggested, measuring and ensuring that they were fitted properly...

Oh, and some graphics to promote the new website, which will be launched in the next few weeks!

I love the rear flaps, can't believe I didn't do it to begin with!!

Today Joe came over with the Micra and we got some photos of the cars for the new website. Thought I'd share some of them with you in this thread - enjoy

          Bit of an update...

First off, we have fitted new slimline mirrors to avoid clipping bails or corner markers.

Rear suspension is back from Proflex and refitted...

We also have an ASBO orange van (LOL) and a trailer to kick off the new look team properly. Not sure my Dad prefers these to the Mini but at least it's the same colour!

We've got loads to do before the rally on 9th May. The car is booked in for an MOT on Monday, after which it will be registered with the DVLA and back on UK plates. I have to do that and get the MSA logbook sent off and back all in time for the Jack Neal Memorial Stages.

In addition we have a lot of work to do on the car and sorting through the spares to figure out what we need to have with us on the rally.

Exciting though, and we have some very strong people with us in the team for the first rally so we're all buzzing about it! :-)

On the spares side take everything you have with you!! Nothing more annoying than being at an event something goes wrong or breaks and you have one back at one of your many garages lol how many units do you use by the way??? Ive gotta do everything in my front garden!!

The mud Flaps llok great but be carefull when reverseing beacause when i had mine low to the ground i kept ripping them off either when reversing off the trailer or if there was a slight graident or kerb! Nothing that used to Pi*s me off more when i had to keep repairing them beacuse they were the moulded ones.

Good luck on the first event are you doing anything AEMC???

I'll watch the mudflaps - that would annoy me too, immensely!

LOL @ the many garages; one is my garage at home (single, not much room for moving around) and the other is my parents'. We fell foul of thieving scum a few years ago and had our garage broken into, so we don't take any chances, particularly with posting on forums and stuff. The car is stored in any one of a number of places, all completely secure and monitored.

As far as events go, I'm not really sure what the future holds. Budget is hard to come by at the minute so we'll take it an event at a time and see what we fancy doing. For this year anyway

Yeah i totally understand wasnt trying to find out where it was lol just every other pic the car is at a different unit or garage wish i had access to that! When its raining i make sure i do a job under the car so i dont get too wet lol!!

What sort of events are you going to try and do? Single venue, tarmac or forest? Have a go at the rally car class at croft!! Next time at croft ill probably do the revivals again and my dad can drive in the rally car class!

Cant you leave that Reg on it makes it look like a works car then! you should be able to get it logged booked on that cant you?

On the mudflap front .. 4 small chains or cables and hook them up out of the way till your on the startline ...

Or 4 small holes, roll the flap up and secure in the roll with a cabletie ...

                  much easier than repairing them

I've seen that done before actually - nice thinking!

To begin with we're going the single venue route - certainly we can't afford forestry at the minute. I'd love to do the Jim Clark (think you can do that on a B license) because it's a proper international closed road rally.

Unfortunately no can do with the reg plate, they don't allow Manx plates on UK cars

                      Here's the van...

Also, the belts in the car were just out of date for FIA, meaning you can't use them on stage rallies, so a new set had to go in. Courtesy of Sabelt UK, and at a silly price in return for space on the car

And a cage mounted drinks bottle holder for long stages, or where we have a number of stages before returning for service...

A quick shot before I locked the car up...

Progress update...we're now back on track.

                          Proflex back and fitted
Rear wheel bearings and brakes renewed/set up
Plumbed in extinguisher system refilled and control unit renewed
New n/s driveshaft fitted due to a broken CV joint
                          New ball joints

We now have the DVLA inspection next week to get the car registered on UK plates, then the week after the car is being set up and corner weighted for the rally by our new sponsor, WRC specialist RASP.

A few quick pics of the car from yesterday after a quick wash down; it was splattered with oil and dust after the last few weeks' work.

Brawn GP copied us btw 8)

We're getting really excited for Blyton on the 9th of May now - see our website @ www.teamwoodspeed.com for more details if you fancy a trip to Lincolnshire to see the car in action.

                          Cheers for looking!

Bit of a trek for you, but hopefully should be worth it - supposed to be a good spectator venue. We're hoping to do some Welsh events later in the year, we really enjoyed the Traws Ranges and the Patriot at Caerwent last year in the Micra. Wales has it nailed for rally venues if you ask me!
