Trig Jason was thinking about doing the last track day with us but he had a race the following day so could not risk damaging the car.
To give you an idea of how quick he is in is 1400 Zetec fiesta he can lap in 1min 21sec.
The quickest car i timed on your last track day was one of the porcshe's (996 I think) and that was doing a 1min 26sec
I think you were averaging about 1min 33sec!!
Now do you want him to join us?
Yeah mate will be good
Plus im not in to fast lap times and raceing im in for fun and like drifting quarry mush loose a good 5sec doing that lol.
Got my brake brackets this morning, which I was dead chuffed with until I checked them to drawing and they have been made wrong! lol
As you can see they foul the caliper body, but at least they can be reworked easily.
Also on the bodywork front, bonnet has been sprayed, and I have prepped both bumpers, grill and front wings ready for paint, just the doors to go tomorrow.
I just tested fitted them on the hubs to double check the calipers fit, and they just catch on one part of the hub so I'm going to get him to take 1mm off the back face at the same timeas the other rework.
i have to have the balancing weights done on the inside edge of the wheel, on my last set of wheels they actually caught the caliper, the new set of wheels clear, but heats the glue on the weights enough for them to fall off.
I did get quite a bit done yesterday, but not much to show for it!
Headlights are finished now, done the sponsor stickers, stuck them to the inside of the plastic lenses, and then bonded the lenses onto the case.
Then I did something ive been meaning to do for ages, I got the wire wheel on the front hubs to get rid off all the surface rust, and then gave them a coat of paint.
Ive just done a revision to the drawing of the caliper mounts, which are going back to be reworked. Shows the small cutout to clear the hub casting:
Glad I stuck with the 285mm disc now, 290 would definately not fitted with these calipers!
Wings and front bumper are now painted up:
Doors, grill and rear bumper should hopefully be painted this week
Due to bugetry constraints I have had to ditch the rear AP 2 pot setup, but managed to get a focus setup
So these were cleaned up, as recieved right, cleaned up with wire wheel etc on the left
These were painted up
along with the new hubs and stubs
Going to get some new standard discs and pads to finish them off
Again due to bugetry constraints I cant afford the shot blasting and powdercoating, so spent a while cleaning up the rear beam with the wire wheel. Painted it up today and it came out really well.
Got subframe and a load of other brackets to go now, not to mention the bottom of the car
Lovely attention to details!
Have you tried dipping these bits and bobs to citric acid? Saves a lot of elbowgrease and does far better job on de-rusting than wire brush ever can.
