Re: Trigs Track Day Retro Ford

I cant really add much more to whats already been said
Except i'm still smiling now I've never done a track day before and for the life of me i cant think why I have spent my whole life around cars and driving quick is probably my greatest passion So to of never experianced the pure joy of hooning around a pro curcuit is beond me. Well now i have and it certainly isn't going to be long until i do it again.
So next time will it be in an escort thats cost the best part of 6k to build??????
Will it heck!!!!!!! It will be in the B.R.E pug that uptill this day has cost me nothing Just go's to show that motorsport most deffinatly doesn't have to cost a fortune and by the que of people wanting a ride by the end of the day it can be just as exciting
Highlights of the day have to be my constant duel with the other B.R.E gtiiiiiiiiii massive.
(dan you no my car is the quickest )
Taking Andy pipe out for a few laps. Finding out the rears took longer than the fronts to warm up and taking the apex cone clean out on the second fastest corner of the curcuit
Taking a slight detour through the farmers field on the second chicane on the final session ( i think little ant enjoyed that )
And finnaly meeting up with the people of turbosport, ones i've met before and ones i hadn't The atmosphere as usual spot on The banter even better

So all in all a great day and one that didn't end untill the pug was gasping for fuel on the long right handers
Trig mate your a star Bring on the next one mate, you have ALL out backing

Viva la France, long live the pug

Re: Trigs Track Day Retro Ford

Our trackday started Thursday evening when I left work with my mate Mark alongside me as a passenger, its approx 180miles from Manchester and there was no mad rush, so we set off at around 5ish and got there at 9ish after a couple of water stops, it was a gorgeous warm evening and as the sun set off to the west of the M5 we were both hoping for a good turnout and a good day.

It did'nt disapoint, after a worrying shower first thing it dried up nicely and after a full "heartstopper" breakfast at the circuits cafe and a briefing we headed down for noise test which was set at 100db. A bit low as from what Ive seen at most circuits it seems to be 105db normally, anyway I did'nt think I had too much to worry about as mine does'nt seem too loud. How wrong was I,
It failed noise miserably, mine read 107db's which is not even close. We were'nt the only one's, I reckon there were at least a 1/3 of the 40 cars booked all failed. We were advised to call in at the local motorsport shop, who were very helpfull and kindly stiffed/sold me an extended silencer pipe for £54 which after about half an hour of dicking about with cordless drills and jubilee clamps I had fitted and was ready for the track. The silencer dropped my noise from 107 down to 98 and I suppose it will come in handy for future track days. What made a mockery of it all was seeing an escort with a 3” hole saw clamped on the end of his exhaust which also worked. Unbelievable that a hole saw would work like that, but it did, fair play to you Ralph.
Took the first few laps nice and steady letting the faster cars past which seemed like everybody!!!!. But I soon got used to the circuit and was having a ball. Was a real eye opener seeing a few of the very rapid cars which Ive seen before go past you like your just not trying, Jamie & Rick spring to mind, very good pilots. And who else got the surprise of there life when the QE2 disguised as a blue Ford Falcon/Fairlane seemed to do a 4wd drift past them. Amazing seeing that go by.

Had a great day really, and I'm happy that Ive lost my track cherry and the car has survived although I do seem to have a problem with my boost hoses popping off, which I’ll being sorting this week.

Unfortunately I had to leave no later than 2pm as it was the wifes birthday "do" and all her mates had arranged a big night out so Mark and I piled all the camping gear into the back of the capri and headed off after a quick petrol fill up.

We had a massive detour on the way home ( not that Mark would know much about it as he was flat out in the passenger seat) as the M6 was closed at junction 15 so had to divert onto the M42 and then the M1 and back home via Woodhead Pass near Sheffield. As said we left at just after 2 and got the car back at just after 7.30. I reckon the car did a good 420 motorway miles over the two days plus god knows how many lap miles and did’nt really miss a beat, with the exception of blowing a hose off so I’m very pleased with the car (cheers James) and can’t wait for the next one.
Apologies if I never got the chance to say “goodbye” as I did’nt want to come in off the track till the last minute and then it was a mad rush in packing everything up and heading off.
Big thanks to James, Ralph and Jamie for there assistance in getting me on the track in the morning, much appreciated fella’s and a mahoosive thanks to Trig for putting the effort in and organising the best TS organised event Ive been to.
Would also like to thank Mark, CossieMark, Pig, Neil & Hippy for making these get togethers top drawer entertainment.
