Re: Lee's RWD Mk3 Escort Rally Car

Been a while since I have updated this...

I put the car up for sale just to see what interest I got but nothing really came of it other than a few messers...

I've had the car in pieces over the Xmas period, stripped the engine had the head rebuilt and ported, done the VVT delete conversion. Had the diff rebuilt and the axle rebuilt also purchased some 7j rims which seem to have completely transformed the handling of the car!

Had the car on the rollers at the end of January and it made 193hp, happy with that and it now pulls like a train right up to the limiter.

I've entered the heart of England championship, first round is Weston park Agbo stages in 4 weeks

Sorry I haven't replied to your pm.

Yes the car is for sale however I won't let it go for silly money. After spending more time and money developing the car I've much more confidence in it now and I'm really keep to use it this year.

                Cheers lee

Seen that you've entered this years events, good man, saw youtube 7 month old video.
Few pointers mate, the back end is too loose for Tarmac running, and the front end needs tightened up as well. Controllable when the rear is out but drifting too long before straightening up and getting power down is what I see from in car Video.
Btw- there's a thread about vvt controller, may help you out,

More torque thru rev range supposedly

Re: Lee's RWD Mk3 Escort Rally Car

Thanks for the hints. All last year Iv tried many different setups, I now feel were there! Since them videos I have gone for compression struts upfront (completely transformed the cars turn in) have gone for a softer spring on the rear, and fitted 7" rims which I feel has made the biggest difference! The cars grip has improve massively since the early part of last year.

I have now gone for fixed inlet cam and gained more revs and less torque to help with the power delivery

Re: Lee's RWD Mk3 Escort Rally Car

First event of the championship was Weston park Agbo stages last sunday. We came 9th overall and 4th in class C. really happy with the result and the work iv done to the car seems to have worked well!
the stages were pretty tricky all day with the weather constantly changing, one minute it dried up nicely, next minute rain / hale stone! i thought we had scored maximum points for the heart of england championship but it appears someone had signed up to it on the day so we were 2nd overall for that but we were the highest placed 2L

                      Heres our last stage:

That's a great result Lee. I dream of a top 10 finish one day!

Hope the rest of the championship continues like this for you.

                        Cheers

I think your navigator sums up that run
                          Fukin cracking. :-)

Car looks far better handling especially rear but Also turns in very well, it's planted. Drivers improving too :-)

Do u think the drop in power/ torque helped with the fishtailing at lower speed exit corners

That looks quick now, very impressive car seams to be planted and is gripping well

Cheers for the comments. The engine work as really helped, moving the power band higher suites me a lot better also has helped with the traction out of the corners, along with myself thinking more about throttle control rather than just hitting the gas!
