my road rally mk2
Finally there’s some garage progress!
The old asbestos roof has been removed and we set to work taking the rest of the garage down
And now it’s all into a flat pack garage
Next step is to try and move the shed to the back of the garden
Which will let us do all the landscaping and digging of the foundations in one go
Just need to get saving the pennies up!

my road rally mk2
Progress is slow with various other things that have happened over the past few months including a change of career but finally something has actually been happening
First off I bought a concrete breaker to break up the base of the old concrete garage and I will be using this as hardcore
You can see from the piles of soil that we have been digging as well!
And finally managed to get the founds poured
Digger is back this weekend so we will get the middle scraped out ready for hardcore and sand and dpm then Finally we can get the base poured!
Looks small in the pic but I can fit two escorts side by side with space to spare
Will have to get another one now!

Re: my road rally mk2
Well after finally realising Tapatalk is useless ive managed to remember how to use the uploader so thought id finally do a long overdue update.
I finally got the garage finished and then a few weekends later i got my friend (and navigator) to come and dig out a and level the garden and driveway.
the concrete came the next day and we managed to get it all levelled into a nice sloping driveway to link the existing driveway to the garage.
this has taken a lot of work and the best part of two years but finally i have a nice space to work and a nice garden that we can actually use.
i then set about painting the garage floor with epoxy paint which is brillliant stuff. expensive and has to be applied right but leaves a tough semi gloss finish that isnt too slippery but is easily cleaned.
i then bought some 2nd hand kitchen units and a worktop to make into a bench and storage unit.
then finally it was ready to bring the old road rally mk2 home
of course i picked the wettest night to do it meaning it got a soaking (but at least did wash all the dust off) and water got into the trailer lights and damaged them!
but here it is finally home.
The garage it has been stored in is a bit damp and i was aware of a few repairs i was going to have to make before i put it away.
one of the strut tops had some bubbling and i knew there was a little bit of rot in the chassis near the bulkhead i had chosen to ignore.
but on the whole it hasn't fared too badly during its sabbatical.Hexham and District MotorclubComment

Re: my road rally mk2
So to work!!!!!
i wanted to take the engine and box out both for a check over and a few upgrades plus the engine bay was starting to look a bit shabby.
So i pulled the engine, box, front suspension and crossmember out ready to make a start.
first off engine came out, took the head off and had a good luck to make sure everything looked ok. very little wear in the bores and everything looked in good condition.
took the sump off and bearings all looked pretty much brand new as well, engine has only done about 1500 miles since last rebuild so this was to be expected but nice to find.
then rebuilt with a new stage three head and twin dellorto 40s.
I can now use twin carbs for some historic events but will have to resort back to the single 40 for some Road rallies.
im keen to see what the upgrades bring
With that done onto the shell itself. After a bit of screwdriver prodding it soon became obvious the strut top was being held together by the reinforcing plate which came off in one go. The original strut top was well rotten but luckily the top of the tower just had surface rust.
this cleaned up nicely with a wire brush on the grinder then i could weld a new strut top panel on and new reinforcing plate.
then onto cutting out the original rad panel and converting it to RS spec.
not really necessary with a crossflow in but the rad fits much better and it looks a lot neater.
im also toying with the idea of fitting a pinto in the future so it's worth doing it now so its ready.
Then onto the scary bit.......................Hexham and District MotorclubComment

Re: my road rally mk2
I was aware there was a small bit of the front chassis that needed some attention but it turned out to be a bit worse than i thought
Annoyingly i lost the before pictures but here it is all welded up
its double skinned and made from 1.5mm plate so should easily be strong enough.
luckily the rest of the car, although looking shabby, is very solid.
The drivers door needs some work and the rear arches need some attention but none of its structural.
obviously because of lockdown there isn't any events at the moment so i can afford to take my time.Hexham and District MotorclubComment

Re: my road rally mk2
Are you talking about Historic Road Rallies?
I don't think you will be allowed twin carbs on a Mk2
Thanks

Re: my road rally mk2
Why not?
As far as I am aware and I have seen at various events as long as an exemption is signed then twin carbs are fine?Hexham and District MotorclubComment

Re: my road rally mk2
I've seen people with twin carbs on a Mk1 and they have been given a waiver as they are in Cat 2, but my reading of the Blue Book is that a Mk2 (in Cat 3) has to comply with Group 1 Homologation papers or has to be standard
If you've seen Mk2's running with twin carbs then I know someone else who would be very interested (not me!)GavinR

Re: my road rally mk2
Group one papers state that a mk2 Ohv or Ohc car can use “single down draft Weber or single/twin Weber/dellorto carbs.
Hrcr technical website has all the details on
Does look like they have removed using princess callipers thoughHexham and District MotorclubComment
