Re: Stylussprinter's Stylus
It's running again now , so just needs the flip front back on and some tidying up here and there. Took the opportunity to paint the lower wishbones and panhard rod while it was up on stilts . They were chipped to hell and the had little paint left. She started ok , the new ring gear helped ! Drove it around the lawn to check both clutch cylinders were working and all gears are selectable ------ feel a lot better now .Comment

Re: Stylussprinter's Stylus
Decided to strengthen the front suspension towers that hold the inboard rockers so have put a 20mm square tube (it was already in my shed) between the top rear of both towers , bolted , not welded. I'd have trouble removing the engine if welded and I couldn't use the rocker pivot bolts for the brace because my ARB is in the way. I could have moved the ARB to the 25 x 50 mm's tube behind the shocks to pull the links back out the way but now the engine's back in it's bloody awkward --- hence the compromise.
Whether I'll actually feel the difference in the front end depends on whether it '' WAS '' flexing --- we'll see .
Also fancied another tube from the bulkhead to the bottom of the rocker tower --- there's one on the driver's side but not the passenger side , mainly for easy exhaust manifold pipe fitting . I might attempt a bolted in type if I can get at it . Should have thought about these two mod's while the engine and box was outComment

Re: Stylussprinter's Stylus
I'm entered into the TWMC sprint at Goodwood this Saturday and the weather looks dire . Seems to be the norm for 2012 , although Abingdon was great both days.
There are 5 in my class , RADICAL SR3 RS , VW SCIROCCO , STRIKER & M1 ESCORT spaceframe plus me. No idea what power/speed the radical and scirocco will have but the ESCORT has 280bhp N/A and the STRIKER is supercharged and also has 280bhp ---- plus me with 231bhp . In the wet just about anything can happen but hopefully not like the APRIL event with a fatality. At least I know the bellhousing is connected to the gearbox this time.Comment

Re: Stylussprinter's Stylus
What a very lucky day , absolutely NO rain even though thunder storms forecast. Also the Radicals / there were two on the day / got moved to another class so it was a fairer battle. I failed scrutes on worn belt but my friendly opposition got me replacement locally so all was ok again. I didn't win but am very chuffed with my time of 93.43sec's (my last quickest in 2011 was 96.08sec's). Simon beat me at 91.44sec's in his supercharged Striker then Nigel was 99.58sec's in his spaceframe Escort.
The front suspension tower strengthener tube certainly changed the car's behavier on turn in , very twitchy and required careful steering input , so now there's an opportunity to lower the rear a touch/lessen the rake , for better rear grip without inducing understeer.
This made me 10th fastest overall with Simon at 8th then Nigel 18th ----- a good day and am really amazed at my huge jump in lap time --- just not absolutely certain where it came from.Comment
