    Re: Moggy's Darrian T9

The rules on cats for darrians don't make much sense.

I have a few friends with darrians one of which is running a millington and he really feels the cat is making a negative difference.

MSA at their best as usual!!

Love this car, one of my favourites on here

        Re: Moggy's Darrian T9

        Small update.

After a few little hic-ups recently...the car is now finally taxed and MOT'd. The engine has been fully run in, set up and dyno tuned.

So we will be putting a few miles on the rest of the car, bedding brakes etc and then will give it an event or two to see how she goes.

We had terrible trouble with the cable gear linkage and eventually scrapped it. I made a new system of rods out of stainless steel and nice quality rose joints......the improvement is night and day!

Cheers it should be out within the next month.

We did about 50 miles in it last night. The car is very fast straight out of the box although obviously can't really sense anything about the handling on the road.

The transaxle 'whine' is unbelievable......my ears were ringing badly afterwards

Had no big problems other than the lift pump which takes fuel from the two tanks to the swirl pot/header tank above the High pressure pump stopped working. No time to investigate last night, but I am sure it's something silly.....there is power at the switch so it's probably an earth at the pump or something.

Will have a look tonight as we want to get more miles on it to bed everything in (including brakes).

Thats good news! When is your first chance for a real test?

              The car looks great!

Not sure yet Marcus, we did another 40 miles in it last night.

The fuel pump problem was a faulty earth....well actually it turns out when I built the car I had not fitted an earth at all to the lift pump....what a d**khead! ....it turns out it was earthing itself through one of the braded fuel lines which was just (intermittently) touching the engine subframe.....it's earthed properly now!

We found a very remote area last night...car is tremendous to drive and the engine is very smooth.

Brakes need some work and this will be the deciding factor as to when the car competes.

Any brake experts out there local to me? North West England.

I've done my share of battleing with the brakes. Eventually I got mine sorted. What's wrong with yours?

                    Re: Moggy's Darrian T9

Hrad to say...just need setting up. Fronts are brand new Alcons, rears are willwood.

Rears seam fine with good 'bite' but then they are already bedded in as they were my old front brakes when I had the bike engine.

The problem is the front, they just need bedding in I think.....but is proving hard to do as they get hot...but not mega hot enough to bed them in...I am trying to bed them as advised but it's tricky as they seam to lock quite easily.

I think it just needs more playing about with bias etc.

Do you have two master cylinders? Did you change the front master cylinder to a larger diameter when upgrading to Alcons?

Yes there is two. the front cylinder is the same as before and smaller than the rear one.

Mid engined car would need a bigger rear cylinder that front engined car.
But if you've upsized the front calibers they'd benefit from a larger master cylinder. Bigger caliber needs bigger master cylinder to keep the ballance. Go for a bigger one to get the fron brakes working properly and fine tune with the bias.

Moggy.. think like this , apparently it wrong but its always worked for me..

Huge front pistons need lots of fluid
small rear pistons need little fluid

now which one would you put the big cylinder on .. big cylinder, lots of fluid moved

stick you head up under the pedal box..get mate to push pedal and watch the bias bar twist, then lock against its sleeve, its now just pushing on the rear only without pushing the front.

                            tadarrr solved ( i hope )

I've heard its wrong too but thats exactly what I did and the brakes are better than ever.
