Okay. Even with it revving to 8000, the 15" wheels must definitely help it on the straights too.Comment

Re: My mk2 Rally car - Duratec power
Yes, for sure, definitely helps. Worth mentioning that it has a Quaife 60G too, which did have a tall 1st gear when I originally bought the gearbox (2.057). I subsequently swapped the diff from a 5.1 to a 4.6 diff and, combined with 15" wheels, it was a struggle to pull away in 1st and putting a lot of strain on the clutch. I had the gearbox serviced recently and changed 1st gear to a 2.4 ratio instead. It is much better now.Comment

Re: My mk2 Rally car - Duratec power
I have an Escort with a little 2.0 Pinto fitted and I have the same diff ratio and 15 inch like yours Jon. It’s fitted with a Quaife type 9 gearbox fitted with a 2.01 first and Race ratios and despite me making the engine more tractable I feel first gear’s just about acceptable on the flat but too tall to set off on a hill. The engines fitted with a sintred clutch plate which also doesn’t help things either on take off. I had a spare std type 9 so I have decided to fit that with a Tracsport kit with a 2.48 first gear and give that a try.Comment

Re: My mk2 Rally car - Duratec power
Yes, I checked the clutch when I took the gearbox out to get it serviced and the 1st gear ratio changed. There were cracks in both plates and the cover had broken - so I had to replace the clutch too. I assume that 1st gear being too tall was putting extra strain on the clutch. It was the same as you described - just about able to pull away on flat ground, but any sort of a hill start just didn't feel good. Much better now with the higher ratio/lower gear.I have an Escort with a little 2.0 Pinto fitted and I have the same diff ratio and 15 inch like yours Jon. That's what it is - twin plate cerametallic. I went for this one (and the associated cover): https://cbradleymotorsport.co.uk/pro...-1x23t-x-5-6mmLast edited by JonSegger; 10-01-2024, 14:55.Comment

Re: My mk2 Rally car - Duratec power
I know there's probably no warranty as such but I might inclined in send photos of that directly to ttv. I suppose it's been in the car a fair while though hasn't it.That's what it is - twin plate cerametallic. Re: My mk2 Rally car - Duratec power
New one is a cerametallic clutch from TTV; old one is a sintered race clutch from AP.Comment

no worries. My fault, I didn’t actually explain it very well.
