Iin August we competed on the 2010 Richard Burns Memorial Rally. There were a few Turbosporters at this one. It was great fun. Lots of info and a write-up here: Richard-Burns-Memorial-Rally-RAF-Marham-August-14th-15th

I received the DVD yesterday. Here's a ripped section of us in action:

Great video. It was a nice touch to give an individualised dvd to all the competitors.

Your car looks really well balanced, you've obviously got the handling well sorted.

Yes, I think we're really getting to grips with the setup now. Its got plenty of power (too much in the wet) and the handling is pretty good now. I need better brakes though. The 13" Wilwoods just aren't up to the job any more. I'm planning on flogging any unwanted spares and bits and pieces to save up for some decent brakes and a swap to 15" wheels at some point. I also still need to do something to give the throttle linkage a little more travel. It's pretty much on or off at the moment - which is OK in the dry, but hard work in the wet.

          You need some AP's then

If you do go to 15" give me a shout, I might be interested in your 13" wheels and tyres

Will you be out at Woodbridge this time?

            Hi Gavin...

Not sure yet about Woodbridge - it depends: http://www.turbosport.co.uk/showthre...=1#post1716422

I'd like to, I'll see what progress I make over the next few days.

It's Alcons that ya want!! Colin McRae, Callum Duffy, Paul Alexander, my brother, and many other MK2 Escort drivers use the same brakes and all have said they're amazing. I have them too but yet to try them out. Near enough stand the car on its nose these do. Coupled with Pagid pads too they're really really gentle on wear, with Ferodo's too for that matter. Matt's pads barely lost anything at Marham mate the pad area itself is very impressive. You get a bigger pad area than the AP's, and the piston sizes are also larger, simply put they're the dogs bollocks!

That's some great footage Jon, nice one I'm well impressed with the way you attack that hairpin (not the bit where you went straight on haha)

Out of interest, why do you fancy 15" wheels? If you are just getting the handling sorted now (and it really looks to be handling well in that footage) then going to 15's might be a big step back? Just a thought...

You can still get some mega brakes that'll fit under your 13's.

I've been using the 13" AP kit from R.A.C.E. for a couple of years for tarmac rallying...bloody ace & the callipers are very light weight.
This kit comes with everything you need, hoses, pads, bolts, brackets the lot

They're nice, but every bugger has AP, I like to be a bit different

If you use parts that most rally boys use if you get a problem on a rally you have more of a chance of getting spares or help!! Just a thought!!

Cheers Tom. Yeah, the one where I went straight on was when the brakes failed.

I know what you're saying about 15" wheels possibly messing up the handling - but my theory is that bigger brakes are going to be better than small ones, and if I'm going to spend a lot of cash on brakes I want to get the best I can. Thinking about how many corners there were in each 15 mile stage at Marham, for example - braking a quarter of a second later into each one would make up a lot of time over the whole stage.

Having said that, I do like how it handles at the moment. I have quite a few 13" wheels and I think Escorts look better on 13s (- a small point I know...)

So I'm torn really. In most of the rallies I've done recently, the only escorts that have beaten us have been running on 15s (with the exception of Gavin, of course ) so in general it look like they're doing something right...

Simon Mauger runs 13's.....can't say much more than that really except the reason I run 15's is for the big brakes and I like the way mine handles.

Maybe just a decent set of calipers (I'm not a Wilwood fan) with a bigger pad area would work better mate?

RI was going to mention Simon and Gavin running 13's. I've got brembos on mine and use a pagid blue pad with 2.8i discs and they are fantastic. I can take dimensions of the fixing bracket so you can get some machined up? I think the calipers are of a 406 coupe or something. Para might be able to confirm what car they are off. Might be worth trying first before shelling out on new big alcons and 15's?

I think Willwoods suffer a lot from caliper flex.
