Re: Escort Mk 2 1300 Slalom
Season 2014 started! These year will be the first full season of German Masters Slalom.
The first race was in Stuttgart near the historic Solitude Racetrack. It was the first real race with the new shell. We made some changes on the car like 5.11 ratio, alloy hubs, alloy 10L tank... but the rest is still the same as the old 4 door. But driving the new is really different to the old shell. So I tryed to find a setup for the avon tyres in Stuttgart and ended up on the 6. place from 12 drivers. Not bad for the first time but a still a gap of 4 sec gap to first every run. This time another Escort showed up a car from the German Bergcup. Here are some pictures:
The next time we went to Heilbronn to drive some practice race on a local series. Got a better knowledge of the tyres and the car and ended up on the 6th from 8 drivers as I hit on pylon and that get´s you a 3 sec penalty in the result. The gap to first was down to 2 sec every run.
Next Race after Heilbronn was a German Master (DM) run. So we went all the way to bamberg on a really cool track. This time we had again a lot of hillclimb cars in our class. And to be honest thats really another class of cars. If i had the money to put a BDA in the Escort and spend money for expensive stuff I could get close to them. But we will see the results on the end of the year. It was a really cool track and the car handelt real good. The wider track we build in is way better to handle the car. But downside is you have to get the wider car in your mind if you drive 5 Years with the small one you really have your line to as close as possible to the pylone. So end of the story I hit another pylone in the second run and get on the 9th place out of 12 with a big 7sec gap to the first.

The last race was on Sunday back on the local series on a carting course. We had good warm weather the car was runing really good so I ended up on the second place with a 1,5 second gap behind the first. The really drive in a wild rear whell drive style and goes sideways out of most corners I thing without this the first place would have been possible. To work on these probleme I changed the rear shocks from non adjustable bilstein to adjustable avo´s as some people I know told me to make the car softer in the rear section.Comment

Re: Escort Mk 2 1300 Slalom
i spent a while pondering why the weight seems bias'd the opposite way to normal, then realised your car will be LHD
weights are pretty even, but you really should be corner weighting with the driver in the carComment

Re: Escort Mk 2 1300 Slalom
Now that the season is over the real work can start. The plans are:
- switch to spilt rims
- fibreglass arches
- new front spoiler
- lighter alternator
- 5 speed gearbox
- check the engine and all parts
- rework front roll centers
- new suspension
- Lotus head would be cool
and maybe some other things depending on the usual things in racing: Time and MoneyComment

Re: Escort Mk 2 1300 Slalom
This is my short report of the season 2015.
Over the winter I reworked the suspension and switched to 4 link an coilover all around and changed the tires from avon to hossier.
So the german masters season went pretty well this year, I was in the top 20 for a long time but the end of the season had some downs. The first one was that the TPS failed on a 2 race weekend, so I lost many points as the engine has no power on this weekend. And the really bad race happend yesterday. I was out for the last race of the german master, which ist today, and did a pre race yesterday, the weather was really bad with a lot of rain and a fast track....
Here are the season start pictures:
And thats yesterdays result:
