Now confirmed that I have won the ACSMC Hamilton Classics Sprint Championship in class Sports Libre for 2011 . Presentations to all will be at Brooklands on Feb 5th 2012 --- a nice venue.
Some good write ups from the year, I'd like to do a sprint at Goodwood, I could never run there with the YB as it was way too noisey, especially on the induction but rallying has dictated that I had to make it quieter and the Duratec is much quieter on the induction so maybe I will get my arse in gear and make 2012 my first Goodwood year
Thanks guys ! It's really nice to still be picking up GONGS , having only entered a third of the available venues. Only limited by money really --- if I just did a trackday or two a year I'd lose the ability to compete . My first venture onto the track each April usually gives me a fright anyway !!!!!!!
Goodwood has surprised me in 2012 by refusing my application to test there on the 3rd April , their general test day being first Tuesday in the month. To be fair they would accept me if it was for all day at £285 but I've been going just for the pm session for 6/7 yrs now , at half the cost.
The LORD must be making too much money , unless of course he just wants to keep the rif-raf out ? They will contact me nearer the time if they aren't fully booked at full day sessions for 25 cars ---- h'mmm , meaning I shan't know if I'm going till the last minute --- bloody pain !
Still no contact from Goodwood so may well start the season straight into an event without a '' wake-up '' session for my old brain !
I'm entering Gurston on the 21st April where I last competed in April 2003 so that will sort me out one way or the other then I'll enter the BRMC Goodwood sprint on the 28th April and again in the TWMC Tonhire on 23rd June. Nothing else planned apart from the invite I always get from the RAF motorsport club to have a free day at their Festival of all forms of motorsport which they organise at the Abingdon airfield nr Oxford.
The only requirement is that you offer a passenger seat to any RAF member who asks for it . Quite a fast course and fun taking guys and girls out who are normally travelling three times faster than my max BUT it still surprises them.
The latest look of my Stylus in 2011 mode . One in the garden ready for the off for last year's Eelmoor event and the other by RALLYGALLERY at last year's Odiham sprint , just lifting the inside front to convince everybody I'm actually trying
'' Exboyracer '' --------- Before retiring I was a landscape gardener so got away with it , as the shed got put up for hiding various machinery . Once I'd bought the ' kit ' to build a Stylus the machinery got put in the drive ha ha ha
You probably can't see from the photo but the shed is actually 20ft x 20ft with 8ft doors and built from 3/4in plywood onto a 4 x 2 in frame . A few tiles up front to soften the look and agri cladding sheets on the roof , held up by two 9 x 3in beams. All my steel rubbish under 4in of concrete floor and it still only cost me £1200 in 1997
The plan to get it past the '' management '' was the 8ft iron ' arch ' that I welded up for plants plus car exit
Having spoken to Katie Wingfield direct this morning and saying I've used their general test day in April since 2005 , she's confirmed the afternoon session for me at £130 , same as last year so I'm in
Had a really good test day at Goodwood and noted one or two cars that may be from this forum. An A35 going very well and a black M1 Escort Cosworth howling along the pit straight and going very well . Marshals were saying he was right on the sticky edge of being called off the circuit for db's though but that didn't happen. I managed my best flying lap since 2005 at 92.6 sec's so am very happy with that . Possibly a combination of Millers new nanotech 5w40 and me being on the hospital treadmill last year so spent time on my ' bike ' 7 days a week since Oct 2011 / about 8 miles a day. (keep taking the pills aye )
The STARS & STRIPES MANTA 6LT CHEVY was there again but with his son driving for the first time but I didn't get to run with him during my three sessions. Quickest car there was a racing Porsche of some description and it followed me round for 3 laps about two car lengths behind me then passed me just before my entry into Fordwater at 130mph so god knows what his speed was
She dripped some gearbox oil back in the pits but I'm not enthused to take the engine out yet again to look at those seals. A little vibration through high speed corners too which I'm hoping is just the diff nose bearing needs tightening again.
At the end of the day it didn't start on the last session so got pushed ---- another little gremlin for me to find. Probably the bloody ecu to positive switch which doesn't seem to like too much power going through it --- replaced once last year and this one's only done 16 starts .
Gurston's my first event this season on 21st April and it's the first since 2003 so I'll be a bit wobbley then Goodwood sprint on 28th April.
