    Re: My Mk1 Fiesta XR2

Quaife are offering me a really good price, but the boxes wont be available until April/May, so I'm going to have to wait.

Bert, thanks for the PM. Shipping the box to NL would by my greatest concern.

BCA, dont worry, she'll soon be leaving very long 11's off the line and should be much much faster than before. Not sure if I'll be out this year, as there'll be some testing before I'm happy to spend money on entry fees. But I may do a late Cadwell towards the end of the year. I'm registered in the Subaru in the MidSpeed in SB, so I'm still planning on getting some competitive milage under my belt whilst the XR2 comes together. Thanks for the info regarding the height of the engine. Very useful.

      Re: My Mk1 Fiesta XR2

Measured up the radiator tonight. I'm going to squeeze it in below the throttle bodies, but this means I have only 26cm height to play with. I'm going to go for 66cm wide, but to leave room for the alternator, I'll have to offset the radiator to the nearside, and maybe cut some more holes in the front to let enough air through. Should look ok.

I've asked Mike Quaife for a price on the Sequential gearbox. They've offered me a discount, but its not the amount I was first offered when I bought the BC box in 2001. They seem to be keeping the price close to their chests as the box may / may not be ready for April / May.

Do you not fancy starting with the current gearbox then? Or will that not be an option with the power rises you're planning for?

          Re: My Mk1 Fiesta XR2

I'll get the car moving initially with the IB5/LSD, but then I have to decide if I spend money on the IB5 strengthened internals, which are only rated to 180BHP, or save up and go for the sequential. My heart says "Sequential"...

          PPT drawing of the radiator.

Does anyone know where I can get the shorter black plastic thermostat outlet pipe from? The one on my engine seems rather long. Or are there other alternatives... Like a right angled outlet?

I'm going to feed the water from the outlet at right angles to the block, across the front of the block to the gearbox end of the rad. So both inlet and outlet are on the same end.

            Re: My Mk1 Fiesta XR2

Pedal box is re-assembled, and looks very bling with the two pack black paint applied. Throttle pedal and return spring still need to be fitted.

So how do I now supply the hydraulic slave on the gearbox, given that the master cylinder requires a threaded pipe, and it looks like the gearbox accepts a push in plastic pipe.

Off to Sunny Glasgow in the morning for a few days, so plenty of time to research a solution.

Radiator will be ordered from Radtec this week. Its going to feature twin cooling fans. Should do the job.

Grahamb, would be shipped. Can be able to pick-up. Going again, to a show this year. Santa-Pod or Ford-fair or RSOC national-Day. Maybe can pick up the gearbox there. PM me for more details on your box.

              My best regards, Bert

I should be at FITP with the XR2 running, or even the Silverstone events later in the Summer. Happy to bring the box along, but would need to secure funds, as I want to get rid of it quickly to offset the cost of the new box...

                  Re: My Mk1 Fiesta XR2

Pedal box fitted. I need to get the flaring tool out as I have to run a new pipe from the clutch master cylinder to the slave in the gearbox. M-Sport confirm that they just use standard plastic pipe from Ford for the clutch slave supply on the GpN ST150's.

Raldes supplied an extra fluid reservoir and drop pipe, so I need to fabricate a new reservoir mounting bracket to take the 3rd reservoir. Shame they cant be mounted inside the car. That'd make the process far simpler.

I also took the opportunity to take the spot weld drill out and remove some unused brackets and catches from inside the bulkhead, to save some more weight. And I've a few holes to fill where they were previously filled with horrible looking rubber grommets. I'll use P38 to fill and then use touch up paint to hide them.

Measured the radiator outlet and inlet pipes on the Duratec and they're 33mm OD, 28mm ID. These are the last two measurements I need to supply Radtec, so they can start on the radiator.

No sign of the alternator bracket from Raceline. They're swamped with orders apparently, and should process the order by the end of the week.

I can now get the front suspension back on, and measure the length of the driveshaft i need for the drivers side. It'll be nice to get her back on her wheels again.

The issue I have is how the heck does the plastic pipe fit on the end of the gearbox? There's two black plastic pipes protruding, one for the supply and another for bleeding. So I need to find a way of joining the two. I may as well just stick with the stock hose from Ford.

                          Re: My Mk1 Fiesta XR2

Forums@xrtwo.com are still down, though there's an encouraging looking message on there now.

We need to make sure that the site is backed up and an offsite copy made, as there's years worth of incredible information on there. Be terrible to lose it all.

Thanks Adam. Phil Bradshaw at M-Sport says that they just run a steel pipe from the master cylinder, and use a plastic hose to couple it to the gearbox. He also said to try Sadev for a sequential box, but thats even more expensive than the Quaife option.

Paul Dolan at Coordsport has sorted me out with a tensioner pulley. Titan are dispatching the fuel rail tonight, and Raceline are sending the alternator bracket next week. And I'm ordering the radiator today (with twin cooling fans), so its all starting to come together finally.

Still needs: Exhaust, Driveshaft, ECU wiring loom modifications, fuel hose rerouting.

Not that far off then. Another couple of months should see it completed.

                            Radiator ordered.

                            260mm (h) x 660mm (w)
                            40mm core, 50mm headers
                            32mm inlet and outlet
Twin 9" fans (pull) with welded on mounting bosses.
                            Polished aluminimum.

Just need to find a decent looking alloy header tank.
