So long as I can sell all the leftover bits afterwards. Thats the whole ethos of the Internet - its all about sharing experiences and knowledge, to help others.
Since I put the Zetec in the Mk1 (and I wasn't the first to do it BTW, but at least I shared how to do it), everyone has followed suit, with some far better, more professional conversions that mine.
There's already others considering the Duratec swap, so if I can save same pain, then the Mk1 will continue to evolve for many years to come.
i figured out a way to fit the daihatsu alternator to the front of the block and i still have room for the rad to sit centrally with the starter motor in situ. details to follow.
keep up the good work on what is a cool little car think ive still got the perf ford mag from when it was featured kicking about somewhere!!. its also good to see someone putting up progress reports. good or bad and all the problems along the way.
Taking inspiration from the Historic/Classic Hot Rods I saw Racing at the weekend, I'm going to have to get some split rims and shoehorn 8" rubber in to the wheel arches. That'd make it stick.
Fabricated one of the brackets last night, to fix the near side of the radiator to the car. The next bracket will be made this evening. Photos to follow.
And I've finally ordered the Quaife Sequential box today, with gear linkage. Just waiting for delivery details. They'll need the BC box to remove the LSD from, so I'll soon be making the trip to Sevenoaks with two boxes in the boot.
Quaife have run in to difficulties with the linkage position on the sequential box, and are now redisigning it. Hmm, apparently the linkage clashes with a suspension mounting on the Mk6/Mk7 Fiesta (which is what the box is intended for). It could be 3 to 4 months before anything goes in to production 8(
thats dissapointing for you will you stick with the origanal box for now or will you hold on for it?
strange that they would release it without being sure its going to work
I'll build it all around the std IB5 and then swap it all over in the summer.
They say that one of the two prototypes is with fomoco for testing, so it may end up in a works car at some point as a std unit. Probably something to do with the Sporting Trophy Fiesta Rally Cars.
I used stainless M6 socket head fasteners to hold the rad to the plates and the plates to the body work. And I've used stainless M5 socket head screws to hold the grill to the brackets too, as the rad used to rattle on tick over, and now its bolted to the shell it aint going anywhere.
This week I can concentrate on making the engine steady bars for the rear of the engine to stop it from moving.
I fitted the Titans last night, to make sure I have clearance between the radiator and the trumpets, and I do. And I made a new engine stabiliser bar out of 1" ally bar. Two more stabilisers left to make. I've also refitted the headlamp surrounds.
Wanted: Second Hand Tremec TKO 500, 600 or T56 Gearbox... Cash Waiting
Any small welding, fabrication, engineering, paint or mechanical works undertaken, please PM for details.
It would seem my computer skills are not good enough !!
Bought the DTA S80Pro today, delivery in the next few days. www.plays-kool.co.uk supplied it, with a great price too. Nick Algar runs the business, he's a registered BSC contender (and sets FTD's in his Gould!)
The DTA-E48 will therefore be up for grabs. Full working order, no faults.
The S80Pro finally gives me full traction control, launch control, 16Mb of data logging, and flat shifts.
