    Re: Ford Fiesta Race Car

    The new footplate:

    The new throttle pedal:

Last night me and andy took the gearbox out and stripped it to check all was ok after fitting the new diff. Alot of plate wear evident from the initial runs so needed a good clean out.

Selector detent was broken again. Looked through the other second hand boxes I have and they are broken on them too so obveously a weak point, might need to invest in a few new ones!

Hopefully gearbox will be rebuilt and back in the car tonight.

      Re: Ford Fiesta Race Car

Few pictures of the gearbox selector detent

      Left: Previous broken standard detent
      Middle: Cracked standard detent
Right: Larger stronger Mk6 ST detent

We can see from above the casing difference of the detent, see how much thicker it is on the ST item on the right. As such I will drill and tap the casing to take the later detent.

Got my freshly resprayed front bumper back today

Also got my new battery cover, seen here next to the old one.

Data logger cover was wrapped in orange vynil rather than sprayed to match the other covers

New logger sensor loom ready to go back into car for terminating and tidying.

              Re: Ford Fiesta Race Car

Yes as Cye said, I have taken a deposit on the car. It took less than a week to sell it without even having to advertise it! I sold it to the first of several enquirers just through word of mouth.

Selling it this early means I have time to sort my plans for 2011, an assult on the UK Ford Fiesta ST championship.

I'm also hiring a Nick Sanderson racing ST for the last two rounds of the 2010 championship at the forumla ford festival Brands Hatch, hopefully will go as well as my last one-off outing in the ST's where I lead the first race twice and had a pair of podiums

As with any build you learn alot along the way, if I was to do it again there probably isnt much that I wouldnt do differently to make it even better!

770kgs dry. Minimum fluids bring it up to just under 780kgs. I weigh ~70kgs kitted up, so running weight of ~850kgs.

Remember that was with all the glass fitted and all steel panels. With some composite panels and poly windows you could easily be looking at low 700kgs, not a bad weight for such a "modern car"!
