Re: Ford Fiesta 1400cc race car

Todays efforts were rolling the pattern rear arches, as per the standard zetec-s arches, which are definately going to be needed now I will be increacing the rear track slightly with the rear disk conversion.

Poor light, so sorry about the pics, but started off flat like so:

After making good friends with these two

    Came out like so:

    The other side done too:

Pretty chuffed with the results, although it did help having no proper paint and not all rusty metal like most fiesta rear arches!!

Poor thing looks so sorry for itself, bring on the new paint job

      Very Nice Jason!

Are you still running eight injectors with the Jenvey set up ?

What kind of gains you had with the additional injectors?

Re: Ford Fiesta 1400cc race car

Sandy ditched the direct to head jenveys as they were too short (without going though the bonnet which regulations dont allow) to get decent midrange. So I now use Susuki GSXR bike bodies with a custom manifold.

It has always had an 8 injector setup both with the Jenveys and with the GSXR's.

I run Fiesta 1.25 injectors in the head, when they max out it additionally injects fuel through the pico injecors situated in the bodies.

This setup works well, as as low rpm, normally low air speeds it runs on the injectors in the head, but at higher rpm when the 1.25 injectors have maxed out, normally higher air speeds it is further away from the inlet valve.

Being closer to the inlet valve is better in low air speed situations, as the fuel doesnt dump onto the walls of the inlet. So it runs as effeciently as possible at all rpms.

Yep, a superb car this... I love to see ingenuity being used in place of the cheque-book

Lots of nice little touches, I love the pedal box and intake setup in particular

Thanks. Yeah I try and save money where I can, to spend the money I have got, where I really need it.

Seems to have paid off so far anyway.

Started flatting the paint on tuesday ready for the respray, we managed to get half of the shell done.

Ive also started filling where the welds are on the pillars and sill, horrible job which I hope to never have to do again!

Ive bought a new door to repace my rather battered drivers door, collecting this weekend, then I have to lighten it and prep for paint along with the other panels.

Ordered a load of new nuts and bolts etc from Ford to piece it back together with, should be with me start of next week.

New AP front calipers delivery should be pretty soon too, been four weeks now since I placed the order, I want them asap so I can measure up to order the discs!

I was looking at one of the Saxo's (silver/blue) you race against when i was down Combe for Trigs trackday, didnt look half as impressive as your Fiesta, standard of build is excellent.
Im currently attacking afew body issues on my Bruv inlaws Zetec S

Got this as a donnor for panels, if you need any bits give me a shout

I removed the glass from the spare set of lights I have to send off to get them replicated in plastic. They are pretty weighty items at 1.25kgs each.

Got the windscreen removed on saturday morning. Now making slow but steady headway with the body prep, the body is flatted, and I have made good progress with the filler work. I need to get a crack on though rubbing down and getting the underneith done plus get the etch primer done, as its going to paint a week friday.

Ive also been busy on ye olde AutoCAD again, designed a new throttle and brake pedal. New brake pedal increasing the pedal ratio from the current 5.2:1 up to 6.2:1.

A new throttle pedal is required to clear the lower position of the balance bar and also incorporating a return stop, something that was overlooked on the first attempt! Also features another throttle cable position.

                        New left, existing right.

Well I wouldnt say that, but I try and have a go at what I can!

Ive been playing with AutoCAD again. This time measuring up and modelling the Hi-Spec setup ive used for the past two seasons before the setup goes off to its new owner, which gives me more practice on AutoCAD and some measurements to work from for when I have to design the new caliper brackets and disc bells.

So one Hi-Spec 4pot ford caliper mount to suit 285mm disc:

                            Measured up in 2D:

                            Then worked into 3D:

Pretty chuffed with it, learning new bits and bobs on it every time I try and do something!

Ive started modeling the most important part, the current brake disc too, which I need to get the offsets from as a base for my new disk bells and caliper mounts.
