Had a mock up of the brakes on the Hi-Spec mounts with the Hi-Spec 276 disc, measured the clearance and looks like a 290 disc is going to fit.

I then went on to hang the doors on to mark up where the colour changes are ready to be painted, and also to enable me to get the panel gaps right for when I drill the new wings to fit.

Im off to collect my flywheel and clutch assy from Sandy now so I can measure up to get my new ones.

Well after LOTS of measuring today, double and triple checking all the measurments and a bit of modeling a 290mm disc will fit under the Superleggera with the AP calipers.

So the front disc bell and caliper mount designs are all done, subject to me checking out the discs and pads when I get them

Anyway, some more of the modeling

Front upright, this was pretty hard to do, took a few hours!

Re: Ford Fiesta 1400cc race car

Well to further add complication ive just been looking through the AP catalogue.

          The 300mm diameter, 25.4mm Thick, 24 vane, 190mm mounting P.C.D is 3.3 kgs each.

          The 290mm diameter, 25.4mm Thick, 48 vane, 165.1mm mounting P.C.D is 4.5 kgs each.

          The 285mm diameter, 25.4 Thick, 24 vane, 177.8mm mounting P.C.D is 3.1 kgs each.

Typical they dont do a 24 vane 290mm disc. Id rather drop another 5mm disc size to get the lower weight disc. 1.4kgs of moving weight, per side, is quite a persuading factor.

good work looking forward to seeing it all in paint

that's a bummer about the disc size.

There is quite a few to choose from, from studying quite a few over the past year, for best quality for money look at the Tilton ones, I would have got one of theirs if I didnt make mine so cheap.

No-one makes a 'bolt in' one for the fiesta that I know of, and loosing the servo is something you really want to think about.

would you go floor or top mounted, do they feel any different?

was thinking of a remote servo for front brakes under the dash as its still primarily a road car

Well floor mounted your probably going to have to make some kind of mouting bracket as the Fiesta floorpan isnt ideal. After doing a floor mounted one in mine and experiencing all the issues, if I was to build another I would try and find a top mounted one. Also those remote servos are ok, but not a patch on a standard one.

I would use a double cylinder converter with bias bar on the standard servo if I was to do it for a road or an occational track car. I doubt there isnt one for the fiesta though, might have to modify or make to suit. I saw a link somewhere for them, will see if I can find it somewhen.

Re: Ford Fiesta 1400cc race car

Well I sent off the standard headlight lenses to sarik-vacform to make some plastic copies for me.

Roly has basically made a mould from the glass ones and vacuum formed some plastic ones.

I had to cut them out from the rest of the plastic, here is one against the glass one I removed.

The glass one weighed 1.5kgs, the new plastic ones are just under 200g's, so a total weight saving over the two lenses of 2.6kgs, easy weight loss.

I still need to put the sponsor stickers on them (going to make them back to front and stick them to the inside this time so they dont keep getting peeled off)and I need seal them up.

                        You get the idea anyway:

I also went to Merlin Motorsports today and bought my new wing mirrors.

These are single seater SPA mirrors, Ive bought them to loose weight over the standard items, plus they are alot smaller so keeping obstructing airflow to a minimum.

Probably useless for using as mirrors, but tbh once I had got used to using the interior longacre swept mirror, where you can see out the back and both sides in one, I never used the wing mirrors, especially useful when the wing mirrors got knocked off!

I need to get some carbon sheeting now to make some baseplates up.

Neil has painted my rocker cover electric orange, looks damn sexy too, he's going to paint the new mirrors too, hopefully he has enough paint left over!

Not much to report on the car front really, havent had the motivation to work on it in this weather! I am also building a gearbox for another fiesta racer at the moment too.

I have ordered my AP discs, went with the 285x25.4mm 48 vane vented disc, with 4 forward facing grooves. Was forced to go with this disc as it was the only 285mm disc with a mounting PCD small enough to clear the pad. Dissapointingly though they are not in stock so have to be made, expect 4 weeks aparently.

Pads have also been ordered, limited to a few AP compound pads with these calipers though, I have gone with the APF403's. If the pads are anything like the rest of the AP range of stuff though, they will be the mutts nuts, I hope anyway!

Have done the technical drawings for the caliper mount and the front disc bell, these will be sent off to a few machining firms now for a few quotes on manufacturing.

Went upto Merlin Motorsport today and picked up all the nuts and bolts I needed for securing the rotors to the bells and the caliper to the hub.

Before xmas I also got half my order of nuts and bolts I wanted to replace, still waiting on some on backorder.
