Road Rally MK2 4 Door (XE powered)

After being interested in old escorts for a long time i finally bought a mk2 a few weeks ago. I previously owned a 106 rallye which i used on night events for the past few years but the temptation of RWD finally got the better of me. I remember seeing this car advertised about a year ago on here but i wasn't in a situation to buy, but when it came back up again i went for it. It looks like its been a little unloved by the last owner but is very solid overall, just needs a tidy up. Here are a few pics from when i picked it up -

    Current Spec

    SHELL
4dr with 6 point saftey devices cage
    Rad cut out
    Gp4 strut top plate
    Gp4 strut brace
    Chassis gussets
    Large gearbox tunnel
Tank platform (all RIX enginering parts)
    Heated front screen

    ENGINE
    2lt Vauxhall Redtop
    DTA S40 ECU
    Proffesional wiring loom
    Uprated cams
    SBD verniers
Bespoke intake to Road Rally regs
    4-2-1 exhaust manifold
    Gp4 Alloy radiator

    TRANSMISSION
    5 Speed TRAN X sccr witn 2.39 1st
    SDB Alloy bellhousing
    AP Racing paddle clutch
    Rose jointed stick
    Gp4 single piace propshaft
Baby Atlas - fitted with ZF Motorsport lsd, Semi floating Gp4 18 spline shafts with Gp4 flanges and bearings, Alloy Brace

    SUSPENSION
    2 1/4 Gp4 adjustable Bilstein front struts
    Genuine FORD roller bearing topmounts
    Twin Cam anti rollbar
    Double width kit
    Rosejointed adj T.C.A
    Alloy hubs
Group 4 wheel studs all round
Gp1 Bilstein on rear with single leafs
    Anti Tramp Bars
    Panhard rod
    2.4 quick rack

    BRAKES
    Pricess 4 pot front calipers
    Vented discs
    Hyd handbrake rear discs
Bias pedal box with dash adjuster and group 4 throttle pedal
    Copper lines inside the car
Braided front and rear brake pipes

The drive home uncovered some problems which included a midrange splutter and a very tight bucket seat. the seat was easily sorted with a corbeau pro2000 from peter lloyd and the car was then booked into mosley's for a tweak on the map to sort the splutter. Unfortunately the car blew the headgasket on the rollers so i've spent the past week repairing the head gasket and giving the bay and wing a freshen up with some rattle cans.

And my final little niggle to sort was the addition of a group 4 throttle pedal as the standard unit had little travel with the brake cylinders in the way and the pedal sat very high. Its now booked back into moselys next week to finish of the mapping, hopefully thing will go better this time.

Managed to get the car back up to the rolling road this week and after another 3 hours of torture on the rollers the mapping is finally done. The car produced a very healthy 151 BHP @ 6000RPM at the wheels and 184 at the fly. Apart from a dodgy ICV which is stopping the car from idleing it drives very well, but i am stuggleing with a 5.1 CWP as i don't have a trailer.

Leaving the rolling road under its own power this time

A quick picture of freddy68's van who also came up for a tweak

My converted minilites which i had done at a local machine shop

I've just ordered a set of super oscars, so after i re-wire for the spots and sort the idle control valve, i shouldn't be far off doing a rally.

Hi, yes it was for sale on here with a pinto, then the xe, but at the time i didn't have the funds to buy it, but when it came back up again i went for it. Now its been mapped properly it goes very well fair play, i managed to get away from john (freddy68) twice when the tow rope snapped

Before i bought the car i looked it up on here and found the thread by stone4dr, but since he owned it, it was a little unloved by the look of things. I've been trying to find out what cams its running if anybody knows the car at all?

I've made a little progress over the past week, i managed to modify (drill and tap to fit a fine adjustment screw) and fit a vauxhall idle control valve which has sorted the idle out. I've also fitted my new wheels and got the spots on and wired up with relays. I saw a half done dash on ebay so I picked it up over the weekend and i'm in the process of wiring it all up, hopefully it won't take too long but i'm not great with electronics so i expect there will be a fair bit of trial and error.
