    Peugeot 106 Cup Car

    Hi All,

I recently decided to sell my MG Rally Car and buy a 106 Cup Car built by Fairfield Motorsport. The car is normal cup spec so 1600 16v engine, straight cut BE Gearbox, Bilstein cup suspension and big AP brakes.

I tested the car just before xmas at Llandow and was really please with it, the handling and brakes were far better than the MG and I felt the power was about the same.

I headed to the West Wales Rally Spare Jaffa Stages at Pembrey on the 29th feeling confident. Unfortunately, the car decided to be French! It broke down after scrutineering and couldn't be restarted (turned out that the fuel rail was blocked) and so we retired without completing single mile!

Yesterday I entered a Maesteg Motor Club Autotest in it (essentially a blast around cones in a disused factory carpark!) and came 8th. I was quite pleased with this there was another cup car out which I beat. I set one of the best times of the day but lost a lot of time early on through trying to hard, using the handbrake everywhere and spinning a lot on wet, polished concrete (people were falling over just walking on it!!). I was satisfied with 8th out of 21 but more importantly had chance to enjoy and learn the car a bit.

I don't have many pics of the car but have attached some below of car at Llandow and the Autotest.

Looking forward to another go at Pembrey on Feb 9th!!

    Cheers for reading
    Matt

Was going well down the autotest yesterday! It was a little wet though! Your also right about the power floated floor it was unreal. I do like a 106 but sold mine because i was fed up with breaking gearboxs and shafts and couldn't afford to upgrade to all the nice bits you have.

Thanks, it went ok yesterday. Best time was a 1 min 5 secs. Kept spinning it over by the green cone and then there was so little grip it wouldn't get going again!

It has most of the good bits but a 180 bhp engine is on my wish list. The brakes are phenomenal!

Won't use it for another autotest though, don't want to wear it out so it's back to the Micra for the next one!

you were abit agresive on the throttle and spinning the wheels alot but i think even though it has standard power it was 'too much' for that factory flooring. i think my best was a 1.04 in the fezza and my worst 1.12.

I think I would have been quicker in the micra! I was deffo too aggressive on the throttle, lesson learned eh?

If you want a set of discs I do a conversion kit for around the price of 1 AP disc!! I had these on my cup car and also on one that has done the BRC challenge and neither of us had any problems. If you are interested PM me your email address

ahh here it is. Very nice, didn't realise you failed to start pembrey. Great cars but reliability issues made me get shot of mine in the end. Hopefully with your uprated drivetrain your luck will be a bit better. I must admit, I do fancy a 106 cup car.

                    Hi Luke,

I guess reliability is always the risk with a French car! Must say that it's very impressive to drive though. Fairfield will be running it so I'm confident that they will minimise reliability issues.

Hope all is good with you.

                    Cheers

Is the handling really better than the rover with its all round coil springs?

Yeah, it's much more of a proper Tarmac set up whereas the Rover was used for gravel rallies and road rallies before I had it so suspension set up had to be a bit more all purpose.

Good luck with it, they definitely have the fun factor, and Fairfield should keep things tip top for you. Here's the thread on my old one matt, I'd deffo consider changing to a jp4 with the j4 cams as a starting point for for some cheap power. There's also some good info on the 106rallyeforum too.

I have a spare set of Tarmac rear bilsteins if your interested? These are great cars and I never had any problems with mine at all!
