A major job preparing tintops compared to tube and fibreglass --- makes repairing mine look a doddle !

Thankfully not too much fabrication to do in a sierra, compared to older fords most bits bolt straight on, so that helps. No race car build is easy though eh, everything takes longer than you plan and costs more, but hey its well worth it when you are proud of the end result..

As I'm going for more of an 80's look I've bought these to replace the clear/smoked lamps.
The aim is to go for more of a period group A touring look than 90's supertourer. She was born in the 80's after all!

Pretty much just a standard multi point weld in cage these days!
At least the cage is virtually done now, just a few little jobs to do and the car can come back home and be readied for paint.

Re: DW's Sapphire Cosworth race car

Car is about ready to come home now, Graham has finished the gussets on the cage, the front x-brace and also a neat little bracket for the reservoir pots to be relocated to the cold side. I will make up some new aeroquips for the reservoirs but at least they are as far from the turbo as posible now.

Graham has now replaced the 3 old wheel bearings, a much easier job with a meaty impact gun and a ramp! New track rod ends have been fitted to the rack as my old rack got brocken in the crash.

Just need to finish lightening the doors and do a bit of prep to the shell and she should be ready for a bit of paint. I'm also making up a proper cossie dashboard which I've lightened as much as posible and will be mounted on quick release pins..

Big thanks to Graham at Penguin motorsport for the big push, putting up with slow suppliers and keeping the work within the tight budget. I might even let him have a drive..

Re: DW's Sapphire Cosworth race car

Fully lightened rear bumper, all internal foam and brackets removed. Just a small repair to do where someone bodged a bigger exhaust exit. OE plastic clips near arches are retained along with a couple of bonnet pins to go on the back

Running gear waiting patiently. Cant wait to get the bay painted so that this lot can go in..

Anyone know where I can get a LHD wiper arm, or which other ford models might fit. Just need one for the single wiper conversion I've done...

Dashboard is now fully stripped. Heavy steel brace carefully removed, internal moulds de-stapled and removed and instrument housing stripped.
Just need to make some blanking plates for all of my gauges, devise some quick release fittings so that the whole assembly can be lifted out and get it flocked. Might even paint it, have used vinyl kote in the past with good results and it would look more period than flocking... We'll see..

Small progress, but every bit counts!

Stripped my old dash from the 3 door and fitted the 3 centre mounted gauges, oil press, temp and water temp. The space below will house the cut out switch and the one next to it for the heater controls will house the oil and ignition warning lights.
Elliot tacho, boost gauge and shift lights will go in the main binnacle once I've made up the plate for them. All of these parts are recycled so good news for the budget
