    Re: My Mk1 Fiesta XR2

Rubber boots kit arrived this morning, from Ebay. Genuine ford parts, with the circlip, metal bands and grease. So all thats left to find are the tripods.

Of to Leeds later. Its lashing it down this morning, so letting the storm ride itself out.

Dropped the car off - got soaked on the way up. They said "leave it with us" which was music to my ears. Looks like my 2nd engine stabiliser would be in the way, so I said "take it off if you need to".

Asked for 2.25" system with single silencer.

Painted the garage floor this weekend. Using grey Blackfriar non-slip paint, from Screwfix. First coat went down easily enough, second coat to follow today.

          Re: My Mk1 Fiesta XR2

Almost finished painting the garage floor. Its not the glossy finish I thought I was going to end up with, as the non slip paint has grit in it. Not too worried though, it looks a lot better than the previous surface. I tend to lie on carboard etc, so sliding around under the car on the non grip surface shouldn't cause too many problems.

Bought a sheet of 8ft x 4ft 12mm Buffalo board for the trailer, so I can fill in the gaps in the centre. This will make loading easier, and will hopefully reduce the amount of water that is chucked up by the tow car, from drowning the engine bay whilst towing in the rain. I'll fit it tonight.

            Re: My Mk1 Fiesta XR2

I trimmed the Buffalo board to size last night, using a jigsaw, and its now the right size to fit on the trailer. But I need to do some dismantling to get it in, as the edges of the chassis are an S shape, and I cant get the board in from below because the axles are in the way. If I remove the ramps, and their brackets, I can slide the board in from the back of the trailer, up to the front. Then I can drill some screw holes and bolt it all up.

            Completed painting the garage floor.

M-Sport called again, and are offering the tripod bearings at £25 a side, so I've asked them for a pair. These'll be dispatched next week.

                    Re: My Mk1 Fiesta XR2

Tony Law just called, the XR2 is ready for collection, so I'll be making the 200 mile round trip tomorrow (Friday)
Fingers crossed its not raining again, as hard as it was last Friday. I asked if they ran in to any problems, and they said "No" so I hope its another one of their 'masterpiece's.

Bought some ally from www.metals4u.co.uk this morning.

2m of 1"x1"x1/8" angled ally to go under the boarding on the trailer (Just in case anyone decides to jump up and down on it)
1m of 3/4" ally round bar for the engine steady bars (to replace the steel bars).
1m of 3" x 1.5" x 10swg (3.2mm) box section, that will replace the steel section I'll be removing from the front panel to allow clearance for the throttle bodies/air box.

And some more solvent cleaner / degreaser aerosols from rswww.com. This is great stuff for degreasing engine/suspension parts, and dries without leaving any residue.

                      Re: My Mk1 Fiesta XR2

2.5" system. Single silencer. Custom made manifold. Absolutely the dogs bollox. Well done Tony Law Exhausts in Leeds.

The only Duratec engined XR2 in Europe now has the only Tony Law Duratec Fiesta exhaust in Europe.

Lambda sensor is welded in too. Top work. Well worth the £700 in the end.

Thanks BTW to Classic Ford magazine for the www.zetecinside.com website mention in the XR2 Zetec engine transplant section.

Maybe next time there'll be a Duratec transplant section too for the Mk1 (Its all Matt Downers fault, LOL)

Lovely exhaust system Graham. Is it, or will it be coated?

Is that a standard silencer that they use? I take it you are confident that you won't need another box for noise testing

                          Re: My Mk1 Fiesta XR2

The system comes coated already, not sure what the process is, but there's no bare metal on display anywhere.

I asked for a single back box. I've always ran a single silencer, because in Sports Libre (hillclimbing) there noise levels are 'very high' so I dont need to worry about 94dba limits for standard cars

IIRC at Snetterton last year, where the limit was 105dba, she was around 98db. I cant see it being that much noisier now.

I think the sump plug fell out on the journey home, hence the oil underneath the car. I'll have a look today.

Graham, it was just £600 + VAT for the whole lot, manifold and system, new hangers for the silencer and system, and coating.

I asked what the lowest price was, in return for placing a link from my site to theirs, and they said £600 +VAT

I guess if you dont ask.....

Looking in this months CF, the price of that Duratec manifold for the Escort, yes, I did get a good deal.
