Re: Grahamb's Mk1 Fiesta XR2 Duratec HE Hillclimber

I'm pleased, to say the least, that I've tonight officially finished the ecu wiring. 8-)
Time for a John Smiths or two methinks.
Just the Innovate lc1 left to fit and she's a runner.

Are you saving the good stuff for when you actually finally finish then?

Re: Grahamb's Mk1 Fiesta XR2 Duratec HE Hillclimber

            So close now...

ECU all connected up, and everything appears to be talking.

Need to check the TPS sensor as that gives out a fixed voltage all the time, going to be a crossed wire in the TPS connector methinks.

This is the oscilloscope output from the DTA software showing crank and cam signals from the sensors. Not sure what the pink number mean, would expect them to be the same for each cycle of the crank maybe?

Re: Grahamb's Mk1 Fiesta XR2 Duratec HE Hillclimber

At a guess, is the green line the pulse from the crank sensor, and the pink ones are the cams at half engine speed?

Re: Grahamb's Mk1 Fiesta XR2 Duratec HE Hillclimber

                TPS now wired in correctly.

Disappointing amount of hysteresis though. The spindle doesn't fit well inside the end of the titan throttle body, and there's a fair amount of movement before the tps engages.

And the TPS can't be screwed in place, without rotating it away from its operating angle/swept area. So I'll call titan tomoz to find out what's going on. I see Ford has a TPS for the Titans as its shown in the Duratec build manual. I'll see if I can get a 2nd opinion.

The drive shaft/axle bar is going to be sent for hardening this week, so I should get it back next week.

Could you build up the spindle or keyway with JB weld or araldite?

Re: Grahamb's Mk1 Fiesta XR2 Duratec HE Hillclimber

I dropped by Northampton Motorsport this morning, and spoke to Troy, and he reckons there should be a spring clip which pushes on to the end of the TPS shaft, that locks it in to the slot on the Titan spindle, so I'll have a look for that in the bag of bits that came with the TB's.

As for the position of the TPS itself, they say its ok to undo the 6 bolts on the end of the TB and rotate it through 60degrees to allow the TPS to be aligned properly. I'll also try that when I next get outside in the garage, hopefully tonight.

Re: Grahamb's Mk1 Fiesta XR2 Duratec HE Hillclimber

Rotated the end plate on the TB and the TPS now aligns perfectly. But I don't have this metal spring clip that Troy mentioned so I'll call Titan today.

Tried to fit the gear selector cables to the gearbox last night. But couldn't suss out the locking mechanism. Adam, do you have any instructions on how they fit. There's a removable orange plastic U clip on one. Does that need to be fitted?

The cables really spoil the look of the engine bay, but I can't change gear without them 8-(

I need to fit the cables so I can position the gear stick inside the car, as I can't shorten or lenghten the cables so the position depends on the cables themselves. And I think the old water temp sender unit I found is faulty, so I'll get another one ordered today.

                          i dont have any instructions

if you try and twist the part that clips into the bracket on the box, the top part will turn and the orange pins will lift allowing the unit to slide on, then release the part you've twisted and the pins should drop back into place

i'm at work at the moment, so not by the car, but if you still have issues later, i'll try and pop into the garage and take a few pics of what i mean.

Tnx Adam, I'll try again tonight.

Turns out I have the wrong TPS afterall. The one I need is the 5110 which has a sprung clip welded on the shaft.
