Paul Alex's character building, pain-in-the-ar5e, bufty money pit
Re: Paul Alex's character building, pain-in-the-ar5e, bufty money pit
Looks fantastic Paul. So shiny and new!
When i first fitted the JRE engine in, we were working on the car till 11pm of the friday night and then up at 4am on the saturday and off to the rally! So thats the spirit, keep working on it till the ferry sets off !

Oh and what makes you laugh about the fuel tank sight gauge, is when a friend of mine PX'd Paul Lieters MK2 HED with his subaru - it had no protection on the sight gauge, and i doubt it was foam filled! That car won numerous events over there

Cheers guys. I couldn't do what I really needed to do today because of some parts not arriving, but we did manage to keep progress heading in the right direction...
Made carbon fibre bracket for fuel pressure regulator
Connected ECU power and earth points
Mounted electric water pump heat sink
Fitted radiator and top/bottom hoses
Added radiator bleed pipe
Fitted fuel tank sight gauge protector
Fitted dry sump catch-tank and overflow hoses
Began tidying wiring loom
It now has oil and water in it - and no puddles on the floor (yet!)
A couple of pics, first up the funky sight gauge protector........I need it for Belgium events but can't believe that you don't see more on other cars
And a shot of the nearly complete engine bay showing the new big header radiator. It might be the first clear shot of the removable front panel too....
I've now got to do a few evenings or take day off to get the car ready for the first engine startup - but not giving up on doing the event in Belgium yet, despite the fact that it'll be over this time in two weeks time!!
More soon,
Paul
likin sight guage protector guess its some of garys handy work ,ive a similar one but slips around from the back ,less aloy so even lighter
highlight is the tartan rug tho ,you,ll be making a carbon wicker basket holder next

Paul what are the two bolts on both sides of the slam panel ?
They're part of what holds the removeable front panel on. There are also some dzus fasteners on the front spoiler, and some tags/bolts between the wings and front section.

Hi Rob - you should know that Gary is a steel man
Gauge was all my own spec - thats what happens when you're bored working away from home
I'll have you know that the tartan rug is to FIA spec!! Still not sure how I'm going to secure the box of tissues on the rear parcel shelf though.....
Nearly there? you're kidding - I'll bet we've got dramas waiting in the wings yet

Whole front panel is now bolt on/off
Awesome Paul, please no more big changes, i want to see you pedal this again soon
Hi Joe.
Yes, front panel is lighter than standard, and removable
No more major changes scheduled now - I have plenty of dangerous (expensive!) ideas, but they're going to wait until it's done some competitive mileage during the summer. Realistically, I reckon the next big changes will be Sept/Oct before Tour of Mull and/or Killarney.

You sure you didn't take it out again just so you could polish the back of the rad properly
Damn! Busted!
Rad has to come out as we're not happy with the small breather union tapped into the side of the radiator (the pipe can be seen on right hand side of rad). Instead, we're having an ally boss welded to it so that we can get a 100% strong mount...
Just been out fitting new Stack oil pressure and water temp gauges.......
......even more wiring to tidy, but on the plus side the oil pressure sender is smaller and lighter
