Re: DW's (new?) Sierra N/A PINTO race car
Yep the short version of today events were that I started at the back and we were all pretty much on wets on a very drying track. I had a load of confidence in the car with a wet setup even on a drying track so I caught Paul Goddard in the BDA escort and waited to see where I was stronger than him. I could carry a lot more speed through paddock and had evry intention of using druids hairpin for the pass.
This was delayed by yellow flags at druids followed by a safety car for the same incident which had involved the nova of Graham Richardson, who's in my class, so having gone up to 5th in class automatically I was now well motivated to see off the 2 escorts for a 3rd in class.
I waited until the penultimate lap to drive around the outside of Pauls escort at druids and exiting graham hill I was right behind Nicks mk1 and I knew his tyres were past their best too. BUT Going up to 3rd gear gave no further accelleration and the car lost all power. I thought I'd knocked the kill switch but everything was as it should be and after coasting off the track the engine would not restart, almost as if out of fuel.
Back in the pits we found that we had fuel, a spark and running fuel pumps but still no engine so we packed up and have now put the car back in my garage and got Andys escort out ready to start work on that for next season
