Paul Alex's character building, pain-in-the-ar5e, bufty money pit
Re: Paul Alex's character building, pain-in-the-ar5e, bufty money pit
I hope that is not as bad as that statement sounds, after all the work and effort that has gone into the car, hope Paul and navigator are ok, cars can be fixed.
Re: Paul Alex's character building, pain-in-the-ar5e, bufty money pit
Thanks for everyone's concern, its very much appreciated
As mentioned above, I damaged the car in the worst fashion possible at the weekend. We'd basically navigated through the wet stage - we'd cleared every corner - and then I somehow managed to aquaplane into the chicane right at the end of the stage. Whilst this would often result in just a few cones/barrels been strewn across the road, on closed-road events they use very big straw bales......
.....the impact damaged the radiator, bonnet, front panel, wings and the front of the inner wings - but was probably much less than it could have been thanks to the front end all being a Retromotorsport bolt-on spec (thaks Gary!). We needed a tow to the top of the hill at the flying finish, but then rolled down the road to our hotel where the trailer was waiting.
I've sent some pics away for opinions on repair costs, but to be honest I'm not sure what I'll do with it at the moment. As I touched on last week, we had the absolute week from hell getting the car ready, and it seems the more we spend on it and the more we try and do things "properly", the more hassle we're getting. With work being as busy as it is, I'm just not sure I have the stomach for putting good money after bad, and doing more of the same. I have a repair figure in mind, and if it's going to be over that I'm going to break the car or just throw it back together and sell it.
On a positive note, competing in Belgium is still as good as I remembered it from 10+ years ago. The journey was a doddle, the team we used (Andes Motorsport) were fantastic, the competitors and organisers are uber-friendly, the fans loved the car, the food was superb, and the beer even better. Why more Brits dont do it I'll never know...
More updates once I've weighed up the repair options - and cheered up!
