andy could fit an atlas under the existing rules, cant see why he would want to though unless he fits a bigger engine with bigger tyres.
the problem with the gearbox tunnel is the MSA wont allow the regs to say you cant modify the origonal floor pan unless you want to put a bigger tunnel in an escort. the ruling has to be non car specific, so if we allowed tunnel modifications in escorts then we would have to allow it in everything and with classes B-E we want the cars to be production based and dont want the body shells hacked around.
A big well done to Andy Pipe as he came second in class yesterday at Lydden despite now having to run in class D (up to 2 litre) and having a comedy diff (unless we broke the other Q shaft )
Andy had a great second race and had a long dice with Alex Ribbens (2 litre GP2 arched mk2 soon to appear in a poular Ford mag ) that entertained the crowd lap after lap. Andy held Alex off until halfway when Alex used the extra torque of the 2 litre to get past going into paddock. One lap later and Andy was sizing Alex up into the same bend hoping to cut back on the exit but Alex went too defensive and overcooked it, going across the gravel trap and coming out the otherside backwards narrowly missing Andy. Alex was beached and Andy had to fight off a mk4 escort and try to catch the eventual class d winner, in an Alfa GTV, however the diff started to slip worse and worse meaning whole lock levels of oversteer on what was otherwise a sweet handling car.
He settled for second in class but it was a shame as he has regularly beaten the Alfa this year.
Still a good day all round and all the results will be posted asap along with some excellent incar footage (once its edited).
Cheers to Jimbo for all the assistance as Gary had to appear at a local fete or something
The diff will be out this week and we cant wait for brands now as the car is getting better and better. We couldn't run the new rear Dunlops for the second race as they would have cooked in the heat with all the oversteer but next time out we should really see what they can do, the ones on the front worked like a dream.
As they say watch this space

Well done to Andy,
I was wondering how he got on.
And well done to his crew too for helping out instead of going to the local fete.
When is Brands? (I know I should look it up)

Cheers Dave, Brands is in 6 weeks I think, there is a race at Castle Gloom in between but alot of people are dropping that round so we're letting Andy treat the misses to a holiday instead

BTW Mr Bahr didnt have a bad day either . I think he had a second in class in the first race and last I saw he was on to repeat that in the second, despite crashing into a tin opener
I'll let him explain but lets just say he peeled back the whole front wing and it serves him right for picking on a poor old mk2 escort

yeah ok
but overall it wasn't a bad day 2x 2nd, to be honest i never expected to get the better of nigel craigs 2.2 pinto escort round lydden, its just too tight for my power advantage to overcome the handy-cap of my car weighing 150+kgs more than the mk2, maybe if it had of been a cooler day but being so hot it cost me bucket loads of power and after a few hot laps the brakes were obviously feeling the strain, fortunatly the damage done was actually minor, the wing is only retained with a few self tappers which let go and saved the inner wing from damage, unlike escorts you can buy beemer wings for just over £20.
i'm still not sure that nigel didn't brake a bit early, but either way although i had been driving within the brakes they obviously didn't have any reserve when i found a bit more speed out of chessons and down dover.
well done to andy, it was great to watch him have such a good race.
i might have some bad news for andy on the alfa front though, i'm rebuilding gregs spare car, unlike the one you've raced against it wont be road legal and so should weigh 100kg or so less

100kg is nothing Graham, we'll just keep Andy off the beer for a week
I think Alex Ribbens is soon to get a lot faster too, but never mind we will still be there putting up a fight.
Your race was good too, missed the end of both though bringing Andys car up to the grid. Like you say you had little chance of beating Nigel as he has his car spot on for Lydden and knows how to make an Escort 10 foot wide
