Here are a couple of pics from Wednesdays dyno session and the resultant dyno plots (red=before:black=now), the main difference between the engine before and after is that a milder cam has now been fitted with less lift and less duration.

We had an annoying clutch problem that killed off 2 attempts at qualifying meaning that once the problem was fixed Andy had to start from the back in the first race.
He managed to claw a second place in it though while getting used to a totally different driving little escort.
Second race and a modified driving style to use the extra grip and torque we have found and he at last got the class win we'd been waiting for for so long
Well done all involved and bad luck to Alex Ribbens who had an oil cooler fail later in the day.
Bring on Brands now, this will give a better feel of how good the car is now and we are expecting a good showing from the little yellow escy
After feeling quitley confident about the day, I lined up in the collecting area for qualifying. i had decided to do 3 slow laps to bed everything in, but half way round the 1st lap, changing up th 3rd, thew clutch decided it didnt want to work. the marshalls red flagged the session, which allowed me to be towed to the pits. The boys jumped straight onto it, and managed to get back out onto the track. A further lap and a half, and the problem returned. To say i was pissed off was an understatement.
After being towed back again, the lads diagnosed that the bellhousing was flexing and allowing the circlip that holds in the clutch slave cylinder jump. A few spacers, new clip and jubilee clip had the job sorted.
Seeing as i had only done 1 lap, i was at the back of the grid for race 1. I balls the start and had to battle through, but the car was feeling totally crap but a second in class was the result. After the race, i went through the usual, giving the blokes a rundown of the car, saying that it was oversteering through the fast corners, but understeering through the slow ones. After sitting down thinking about it, we discovered that i was driving like i had the old engine. Where before i had to get on the gas and nail the throttle, i cant do that now with the huge increase in low down torque. I now have to feed the power in. After being told to calm down and drive more slowly, i lined up for race 2, but my main enemy, Alex Ribbens had problems and couldnt start. So the class win was in the bag if i kept it on the circuit. With the chat that i had going round my head, and keepiong it smooth, i managed to get my times down to within 2/10ths of a second of my personal best, so have high hopes for the rest of the season.
A big thanks to Gary, Dave White, Jimbo, Dad, Steve and Ray Donner for there help.
I need a bigger trophy cabinet, from todays little haul
Well done Andy, you and everyone involved deserve a pint
Oh we had a few
well done Andy ... and well done for listening.
As the qualifying didn't go quite to plan we had no data on the car for the first race, so the car went out with ballpark settings. Watching Andy going round in Race 1. I knew there was something wrong, some of which I knew would be down to the settings and also Andy driving the car of old, not new.
Ray and I got our heads together and decided what was going on with Andy, and as Ray talked him through it I made a few adjustments to the car from the data from Race 1, only minor ones to the front end and tyre pressures. I left the back end alone which was set neutral ish, just a little roll toeing of axle. I didnt want to give Andy too much rear grip as he was doing standing starts at Lydden, and was fearfull of having a shaft snap on him and ruining a good chance of a class win. With that in mind I just checked over the rear, making sure nothing was loose.
Andy went out in the second race and the car looked totally different, Andy was flowing from corner to corner, no signes of the understeer where he was carrying too much speed into the corner or the oversteer from snapping open the throttle from the exit.
Best part for me... was seeing him going round the hairpin .. finally we had that one ironed out, he was on the right lines and we could all see he was quicker through there, the hairpin was always a bug with me as I knew Andy was overdriving the corner and not flowing through it. But after a diagram from me scribbled on the back of a data sheet and some words from Ray, he did it, he got it right
where all the cars used to pull 10-15 foot on him coming around it, Andy was now right on their tails, and with some more seat time he'll be diving past them on the exit and the run to Paddock.
Its a shame we have to wait till July to go back to Lydden, I want to go back there today
Well done Andy, I'm proud of ya mate
Well done too to all the Pipe family for getting Andy back out there, and to Dave White for his invaluable help
Also to Jim Pope, Jimbo, a fellow turbosporter who drove down for the day and helped out with every aspect of running the car. Jim your a diamond
So at Brands ... 6th of May will we see some more TS members supporting Andy?
It will be good to see you there, your always welcome and the days racing will, I garrentee you, be better than any Formula 1 race you've seen in the last few years. This Championship was voted 3rd best championship in the Motoring News poll last year, behind the British Touring Car Championship and the Formula Ford Championship, both of these championships have been running for years and have TV coverage. To be in their company in the top 3 shows how good this championship is. So highly rated is this Clubman championship that The Motoring New's is now one of the Title sponsors of the Championship
If your worried about the costs ... then put on some orange overalls and become a Marshall... you get close to the action and see it all for free.
But the entry fee isn't that high (sometimes we have some spare tickets) and you'll have a great day watching some of the best racing in this country with a wide range of cars .. fire breathing 600bhp turbo monsters to cars that you drive yourselves. Come on.. come out and have a great day.
