Re: Grahamb's Mk1 Fiesta XR2 Duratec HE Hillclimber

Anyway, back to more important things.

The Geartronics gear display has turned up, albeit with a rather short harness, probably intended for RWD boxes, not FWD.

Needs a +12V supply, and the pot fixes on the box, and feeds the gear position back to the display unit.

The wiper motor intermittent relay also turned up from VWP, and has a rather odd wiring schematic, so I'm going to have to try to fathom out how to connect it in.

Does a intermittent relay normally double up as a standard relay, or do I need two relays?

ie one to signal for a continous wipe, and the other to switch the wipers on/off every 5s. I know the wiper motor needs a permanent +12V so it returns the wiper to the parking position, and thats fed to the motor through a fuse. The 'signal' wire to the motor then triggers it to wipe, and the permanent feed ensures that the wiper runs and returns to the park position.

All week off for me, so getting things done is a priority.
The control box (above) will be finished today (Tues)

Red, poxy phone camera makes it look orange under flourescent light.
All the crimps have heatshrink with identification marks.
And I have a wiring diagram too. 8-)

Great progress, liking the heatshrink identification.

Re: Grahamb's Mk1 Fiesta XR2 Duratec HE Hillclimber

If you write on the heatshrink before shrinking it, even my handwriting becomes 'neat' 8-)
Will finish it off today, if I can stay warm in the garage.
Just the wiper motor relay and one more switch left, then I'll need to get some fuses plugged in. Then I'll tie wrap everything to keep it looking neat.

Next stage is to add the 12/19 ITT Cannon connector on to the loom, to feed all the control box circuits, and to connect the power from the isolator switch in to the loom itself.

Then I'll run the extra +ve and 0V wires around the loom to the dash etc, and I can finally crimp all the S80 pins on and thats it!

You know what I never even throught of that idea!

Ive seen the heatshrink label printers and the pre made heatshrink letters/idents, but just writing on the heatshrink before you shrink it! Simple obveous ideas are always the best!

Use a fine tip permanent marker pen and it never rubs off either.

Im glad i have never got into electronics as mad as this, theres enough mindfucks with building the rest of a car let alone this box of electrical mess too

Fantastic work is the rear beam back yet?

                              Et voila!

Based on a std rear axle. Focus rear hubs replace the standard stub axles, and I've gone for HiSpec rear calipers, and focus disks skimmed to 6mm and cross drilled + lightened.

The trailing arms and panhard rod are from www.kustomengineering.com

Rutland Performance Vehicles produced the axle for me. And they had it powder coated, and anodised the caliper brackets too. The rear hubs are shimmed to give -1.5 degrees camber.

Very neat, like how you have positioned the rear caliper.

What weight did you get the discs down to?
