Whe have been so busy making sure my one is up to scratch that we havent had time. Poeople think that me and Dave are in the motor trade and work on cars for a living. This could not be further from the truth. There will be a massive push on this over the closed season as Dave has now collected a lot of parts to finnish.

He will be out next year

          Re: David White's - Mk2 Escort - Cosworth V6 Turbo

A few little bits of progress over the last week or so, for starters Mr Pipe has made a bespoke ecu/engine loom which will be finished once we've purchased some shiny new plugs to go to the injectors, sensors etc..
I'll get some pics of it up once its finished but I must say its looking brilliant, even if I have seen smaller looms in Boing 747's

I've repositioned, well positioned for the first time, the coil pack which may look like its in a rather odd place stuck up on the plenum but trust me the bonnet clears, it has a bit of airflow up there and I didn't want to tuck it right out of sight as I want all the components of the car easily accessible (sp) for the last minute paddock frenzies

I also made a bracket up for the 3bar map sensor using the same logic so as to keep the engine bay fairly neat

            Re: David White's - Mk2 Escort - Cosworth V6 Turbo

I also got the airfilters mocked into place on the car today.
The samcos go through existing holes in the front panel and join up with some nice 63mm ducting pipe that I got from rally design.
I'm well pleased with this setup as I've not had to cut big holes in the inner wings, which may sound a bit odd being as how modified the car is, but the logic is that if I do ever fit a different type of engine I've not got large redundant holes everywhere round the engine bay, especially if its N/A (only if I could get an LS on throttle bodies )

The filters will get air from the outer headlight apertures (no more tinted light covers ) and I've got them so they line up perfectly. Luckily the filters are the perfect size and virtually the same width as the headlight hole so all I have to do now is make up some brackets to replace the temporary tie wraps and some dirt shields to stop rubber and crap flying up there from the tyres

Just to check the front end cleared ok I stuck me phone in there with the flash on to see. Looks well clear to me

Cheers guys, I have got a few more pieces of the puzzle now so a bit more work will get done this week provided the six, twelve hour days I'm doing aren't too heavy.

What fittings and pipe do you guys use for the turbo oil returns? I keep forgetting to check the fittings on the sump when I go round there

Also do the turbos oil feed lines have to have filters in line (like burtons sell for Yb's) or can I just make them from aeroquip as we did with the brake lines?

                                Re: David White's - Mk2 Escort - Cosworth V6 Turbo

i would only ever recomend using a filter in the turbo oil feed, loads of turbos have crapped out simply due to containinates from and engine rebuild whilst the engine itself has been just fine.

as far as the oil return goes, i'd bolt a YB return pipe to the turbo which can easily be bent/cut/rewelded if needed, once you get beyond the turbo it doesnt really matter what the return is made from a decent bit of rubber hose such as oil cooler pipe will do, just make sure the return is at least 10mm bore and returns to the sump or block as high as possible, strickly speaking the return is supposed to return the oil to the sump above the level of the oil in it, but mine doesnt and it hasnt given me any problems, incidently the oil return to my sump is actually a cut yb turbo drain pipe

because my sump is fairly thin alloy i just bolted the pipe to it, using some nice big washers on the inside lock nuts and some JB weld as a just incase sealant/ adhesive, that sunp has been used with 3 different turbo configerations so i have moved the return at some point hense the extra holes and nut/bolt sticking through the sump
