No Graham you can't run nitrous oxide in class A

Are you not a believer in the bigger the better with discs then, I always thought the more leverage the better and they will have better heat dispersion too?

Oh and these 6 pots etc cost me less than the smaller 4 pot wilwwod se I had planned to buy!

Basically an inch would have to come off, and no I wouldn't like to try doing that, might mess up all the veins inside and I wouldn't wanna risk it.

All that had to go were my 15" orange splits and they have gone to a better home where they will be used more than on mine (they were only for wets) so with the money I got I'm looking for a set of 16" or 17" wheels hopefully with a set of wets or inters already on them.

        Re: David White's - Mk2 Escort - Cosworth V6 Turbo

bigger discs will help a bit with heat dissipation, but the bigger diameter actually adds very little leverage, my current discs do however have nice curved vanes which are supposed to cool much better

think about it, a 300mm disc gives the caliper 6inch leverage at the extreme edge of the disc, now imagine the lbsft braking force your actually applying when stopping, its 100's and 100'slbft,

going to a 330mm disc will gain you a fraction over half inch more leverage, now when you are already generating 500lbft plus of braking power how much will you gain with an extra half inch leverage? not a huge amount.

dont forget a huge disc is like having a flywheel on each corner of the car, you've got slow the extra stored energy in the discs,

stopping power is mainly about pad material, heat management, hydralic leverage, then disc size, assuming you have plenty of tyre grip

on the silverstone national when i had full power in between things breaking i was braking significantly later than cars which were nearly around 40% lighter and were going around 40-50 mph slower at the ends of the straights.

my 02 was also brilliant on the brakes on mere 280mm discs coupled with std rear drums on std road linings, not that the rears did anything after lap 3!

          OK; Modern touring car with a mere 275 bhp 8500rpm wet sump engine and 9x17 rims;

Front brakes: 343mm vented discs and 6 pots
Rear brakes: 290mm solid discs with 2 pots

And I believe the old 300+bhp hi tech super tourers had something like 375mm discs

Modern tourers are a lot cheaper than their predecessors, so I still reckon these brakes are about the right size for a 1000kg car, but as you say we will see next season

Not much to update, painter is letting all the front end settle so he can respray all of it, Again ,

..and in the meantime the guy who got me the Hi Spec brakes has a pukka twin turbo ally intercooler for me to look at, although I expect the 2 cossie ones will stay, plus he has a load of samco's so I need to get them and then get the rest of it all plumbed in.

Brakes and extinguisher need plumbing next too but that should be a doddle

                        Couple of phone pics today,

got my brakes all on and the 16's clear them nicely , just a pity you cant see the brakes through the BBS centres

Put the gear stick surround back in the car, and yes we are trying to save the blue paint for other things
